I received my Carmount Today...

It's the Arkon VG935 ... It was delivered from Britain to Germany and I must say ists really good...

I tested how stable it would be on the WindShield... It is really tightly...

I can also heave my really heavy Desk with my 17 " CRT and other stuff on it with this Arkon VG935....

So.. I'm really satisfied with this product and it's worth to pay about 25 € ....

why not..???

Can someon take a picture of the PSP-290 attached to the PSP from the top to compare if it could fit!?

Sorry for my english.. I'm not using a dictionary!! ;-)

EDIT:

This thing on the top of the Arcon CarMount can be removed and modified that the PSP-290 can fit or you can screw somethin HomeMade to this Carmount instead of the original supplied holder for the top of the PSP. !!

I'm thinking of buying one myself, an Arkon will it be!
But what is the differance between VG934 and VG935?
Which is the best? The VG934 doesn't have that extra "arm", but is it necessary? And what is "5” Windshield Suction" and 7"?

Thanks!

Here is the mount I use. It is more expensive than the Arkon.

http://www.gpscity.com/item-ram/ramb166pd2.htm

I think i may get the Arkon to see what the difference is between the two.

And it does not interfere with the sony -290

What I like about this one is that it is fully adjustable in any direction. It has two swivel ball joints that allow it's flexibility. And to loosen both joints all you have to do is unscrew one knob.

The 5" and 7" means 5 inches and 7 inches. How far the mount extends.

I bought the same, bad point is the two legs cover the sound system ( very bad point) and to works with the PSP-290 i had to make a small hole at the top of the support to fix it.

But anyway is a very safe car mount.

who's got the 967 and what makes it better than the 935 if it is?

I got an arkon from through an amazon seller for like 20 bucks. Flipped it upside down and it works fine with the 290. I was really displeased with the 290, and decided to buy a GPSlim 236 and a premade cable from that paypal guy who sells them. Got the Holux for 43 including shipping (a steal). With the 290 in my room, i got 1-2 sat's and no fix. The Gpslim I get 10-12 and a fix in about 15-20 seconds. Its amazingly better. I'm probably going to sell my 290 if anyones interested.

Nope, it fits really tight, the clamp at the bottom move up and down to release the psp but you have to push hard for it to move.
So there is no way it's coming out of there by accident.

As for the camera, it's a Canon PowerShot S2IS. :)

The shaft length will be 13 inches instead of 10 inches.
So if you stick it on the windshield, the PSP will be 3 inches closer to your face with the 13 inches one...

It's OK, but in my Saturn it sucks because my cup holder is in front of my gear shift and if I switch to 3rd gear the gearshift bumps into the PSP. I'm going to return it and get something else.. I'm looking for some other sort of mount besides vent mount or windshield mount.

Alright, I'm going to put my opinion in about these "Magic Stands" and the other ones that look like them. I got a 13" model off eBay for about $15. Worked great for about 3 days. I left it in my car all day, but one day when I went to work, the suction cup holder warped in the sun, and it wouldn't hold a decent grip on the windsheild anymore. AFter one more week of use, I went to turn the PSP screen to better fit my view, and the rod connecting the base to the PSP actually broke. Taking a look inside, all that's holding the PSP up is a thin mallable metal, maybe alluminum or lead (lol, god forbid. it is from China afterall). Anyways, now im looking to get a more "solid" PSP car stand.

That's what I wanted to know earlier, lol, which one is that? No one really answered my question......

All of the Arkon stands look solid, but I don't want a suction cup model, and I don't have enough of a flat surface for the one that sticks on a flat surface, so I figured the vent mount would be best.

Your not the only one with that problem, I had the same thing while driving a route on my motorcycle, I also wanted to change the angle of the stand, and the stand snapped inside the suction-part of the stand.

Not really a problem, I've got a solution that works even better than with the suction section, tomorrow I'll make a picture.

Hey whats the name of that one and where did you get it? I'd like one that had both suctioned and air vent mounts.

JimmySprinkle
August 19th, 2007, 21:29
Well, I went with the Arkon VG935. I got for about $17 though the amazon market place.

http://www.amazon.com/Arkon-VG935-PSP-CONSOLE-MOUNT/dp/B000H7OOS0/ref=sr_1_6/104-9625228-3622356?ie=UTF8&m=A3AK1K19MPF0E2&s=generic&qid=1187554510&sr=1-6

You can get it there for about $20 new.

What I like about this one is that it has a huge range of motion, as well as the fact that the rigid locking arms mean the PSP doesnt rattle around like the fexible arm ones.

Here's a few pics

http://img248.imageshack.us/img248/3306/img15451so4.th.jpg (http://img248.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img15451so4.jpg)
Here's a shot of it in my car

An example of its range of motion

http://img250.imageshack.us/img250/4941/img15471mi0.th.jpg (http://img250.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img15471mi0.jpg)
There's my old crappy one on the left, and the Arkon on the right. Notice how much bigger the Arkon one is. It also holds the PSP quite firmly.

http://img250.imageshack.us/img250/1753/img15461pb8.th.jpg (http://img250.imageshack.us/my.php?image=img15461pb8.jpg)
And here is the mount fully extened hanging off one of my records. As you can see, it is more than capable of holding the PSP as full length.

Well, I hope this helps some of you make a decision. I know I'm never using a cobra stand again, and for the past 3 weeks, the Arkon stand had more than satisfied me, especially since it costs just a few bucks more that the other stands.

JimmySprinkle
August 19th, 2007, 21:44
Oh and Ninja, be very careful with the stand that you bought, because except for the head part, it looks exactly like my old one. Make sure you never try to bend the tube near the head or the base, thats where they break really easilly. And also, never leave the stand mounted on your windsheild when you're not using it. If you leave it in the sun, the heat will warp the plastic base, conforming it to the curve of the windsheild. Once that pastic base is warped, it wont keep a vacuum in the suction cup, rendering it useless.

Kupo, where do you live in AZ? I'm in teh Phoenix area.. I bought the bracketron windshield mount at Best Buy. It works pretty good but I only out it on when I need it. I was thinking about getting the vent mount, but I don't want anything covering up the vents in the hot AZ sun.. I need the AC to keep cool :)

Does the 290 work better with a car mount?
Does the mount give less PSP interference

Thanks

Most mounts are plastic, so the difference will be negligible. I've seen some metal cover "mod" somewhere, that might work, but if you're looking for seriously better reception, try the extension cable at http://pc-mobile.net/pspue1.htm.
