Wing Commander creator Chris Roberts' Cloud Imperium hits stellar milestone

Chris Roberts' Star Citizen has raised over $9 million in crowdfunding.
The Wing Commander creator launched a Kickstarter campaign that raised $2.1 million, and by mid February the additional cash raised on the Roberts Space Industries (https://robertsspaceindustries.com/star-citizen/) web site brought the tab to $8.5 million.

The news of the latest milestone passed comes just a week after the announcement that the game's developer, Cloud Imperium, had opened a new office (http://www.develop-online.net/news/43955/Star-Citizen-developer-opens-Santa-Monica-office) in Santa Monica.
The game has already been in development at the studio for over a year, and is said to combine elements of Roberts's previous games Wing Commander and Freelancer.
The studio also plans to implement support for the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset.
