Mozilla is calling for HTML5 app developers to get in touch to receive a Geeksphone Keon smartphone (http://www.pcr-online.biz/news/read/first-firefox-os-developer-phones-available-now/030782) for free.
In order to qualify for a device, developers need to submit a proposal to Mozilla outlining the app they wish to build or port to Firefox OS.
If the pitch impresses Mozilla, the dev will receive a free Keon, which has a 3.5-inch HVGA display, 1GHz Snapdragon S1 processor, 512MB or RAM and a 3MP rear-facing camera.
“When Firefox OS phones become available to consumers in select locales this summer, you’ll have an opportunity that only comes around once—a first-mover advantage in Firefox Marketplace,” reads the Mozilla blog (https://hacks.mozilla.org/2013/05/phones-for-apps-for-firefox-os/).
“End users in Latin America, Eastern Europe and other launch locations will be on the lookout for playful and practical apps to install: games, tools, and utilities as well as locally relevant news, sports, travel, entertainment, review apps, and social sharing experiences. And you can build and submit them now!”
