NEC’s Medias X is the first smartphone to feature a liquid cooling solution to keep the handset’s temperature under control.
Launched as part of DoCoMo’s summer lineup in Japan, the Medias X has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor that utilises a passive heat exchange system using a graphite based radiator for heat dissipation. Liquid coolant flows through the device, connecting the two and cooling the processor.
Having a liquid-cooling system inside a phone seems a tad over the top, especially considering that the Medias X runs a 1.7GHz quad-core Snapdragon – a processor found in a number of other smartphones.
The Medias X also comes with a 4.78-inch 1280x720 display, 13MP rear camera and 1.3MP front-facing one. This device is likely to only be sold in Japan, but if successful, we could be seeing much faster devices in the future that may need to use this kind of technology.
