Has the curtain already fallen on the next-generation HD format war? After interviewing studio executives, polling industry analysts and reviewing the latest sales data, The NYPost has declared a victor: Blu-ray.

While we think it's a bit to early to call this one, Blu-ray is clearly gaining a bit of global momentum (thanks to the PS3). The full article is worth a read, but here's a hodge-podge of the story's best quotes, conveniently strung together and presented completely out-of-context:

"It's never been a question of if Blu-ray will pass HD DVD, but a matter of when. It's safe to buy Blu-ray players without fear they'll end up being sold as relics on eBay. Retailers will pull the plug on HD DVD sometime next year. "

Owning players for both formats, I don't really care who wins... though I do prefer Blu-ray's ability to play uncompressed PCM audio. That stuff sounds amazing!

HD-DVD has such an easy name to promote but Sony has just taken Blu-Ray to the next level and now HD-DVD is almost out the window. If it has any chance at a victory, it's the name.
