UPDATE: Sony has contacted MCV to say that it has "not made any announcements about PS4 software pricing for the UK or Europe and will do at a later date".
ORIGINAL STORY: PS4 games will be priced the same as PS3 games, Sony has confirmed.
“We have announced the pricing for our first party line up of PS4 launch and launch window games,” a rep toldShackNews (http://www.shacknews.com/article/79779/microsofts-xbox-one-games-to-be-priced-at-5999). “All four titles – Killzone: Shadow Fall, Driveclub, Knack, and inFamous Second Son – are all $59.99."
Microsoft made a similar commitment regarding Xbox One software pricing (http://www.mcvuk.com/news/read/microsoft-pledged-to-keep-new-game-rrps-static-for-xbox-one/0117251) earlier this week, with a rep stating that “Microsoft Studios games on Xbox One will be $59.99”.
Of course, none of this necessarily means that third party publishers won’t try and alter the pricing structure for games.
Indeed, even the last generation the likes of EA and Activision attempted to hike the price of titles such as FIFA 12 (http://www.mcvuk.com/news/read/fifa-12-rrp-upped-to-54-99/03491), Modern Warfare 2 (http://www.mcvuk.com/news/read/54-99-modern-warfare-2-to-lead-xmas-price-hike/011881) and Black Ops (http://www.mcvuk.com/news/read/retailers-give-cod-black-ops-54-99-rrp/08618) to an eye-watering £54.99.
Still, there are those of us who remember paying £79.99 for Super Street Fighter II on the SNES…
