hacked2123 has released details of a new Proof of concept exploit for the PS3.

Heres the details;

Very simply I had a .h264 encoded video file, and encapsulated it through VLC with M2TS, and transferred it to the PS3; it claims the file is "Corrupted Data". When selected the PS3 prompts the screen with "The data is corrupted."

Here's the good part, that same file, when selected after entering a game (any game), will produce a completely black screen, no info, no beep, no nothing and the controller circle and other buttons won't work. (PS button works, but when the system is turned off it sounds like its yelling @ you (the beeps))

This sounds interesting to see. I'll download this and try it out when I get my new PlayStation 3 console tomorrow morning.

Yes indeed. There is already much great news about the PS3 being hacked with this exploit, rumors of a Paradox exploit, rumors of a Ferrox exploit, and a modchip. It is a great time to be a PS3 owner.

Yah this is embarrassing for homebrewers everywhere and exciting for Sony. I wish Dark_AleX and Fanjita would work on the PS3.

It does play homebrew. PS3 Linux can run things.

And, people have made things which don't even use Linux.

Check the www.ps2dev.org forums.

i mean non linux homebrew, when i say homebrew i mean like the psp scene, being able to run eboots etc, all the things on ps2dev are pretty much useless.
the best thing is this

Well, for those of you who would like to program the PS3 without messing
around with Linux, I have now completed a demo app that runs directly
under the hypervisor. I.e. no linux needed, not even kboot.

Source and binaries here

It demonstrates graphics rendering with the CPU (directly to DDR memory)
and multibuffering, as well as some needed system management (set
video mode, reboot etc.)

Enjoy.
