Don't be tempted by third-party batteries: they may promise longer battery life, but Ruriweb has proved that they're unreliable, and dangerous too. For comparison purposes, note that PSP is packaged with a 1800mAh battery. Sony offers a longer-life 2200mAh version as well.

Ruriweb tested three third-party batteries and they all had incredibly disappointing results. The 2200mAh battery produced only 2000mAh of power. Two other 2600mAh batteries produced only 1500mAh of power: that's less than the battery that comes with your system! To make things even worse, one of the batteries actually caused massive damage to the system (pictured right). The official Sony battery may be pricey, but (ironically) it's the best battery solution by far.

I cant say i agree, i found the 2600mah battery to be very decent, agree or disagree via comments

I'm using the STAMINA battery the 3.6v 2200mAh battery, hasn't seemed to give me problems, how can I test/tell how my battery is operating. I think I may be able to check using iRShell, I'll go check.

I'm using a 3600 MaH Lithium battery and it is awesome, provides so many more hours of playback and has never caused me any trouble. I'm sorry but their advice is unfounded and in fact.....wrong.

Why not just carry two batteries? I mean you already have to carry UMDs, and if your trip is long enough you should know to carry your extra battery.

I used a Datel HDD for a long time, and the X2 3600 mAh battery that came with it. Now I'm on a Sandisk card with the original Sony 1800 mAh battery. No noticeable difference in duration or performance. The Datel hard drive is supposed to consume about twice the battery power as a memory card, so that would make sense. My generic battery seems to work just fine.

Standard 1800mAh battery - the one that came with the PSP.

i bought the expensive 6000 mah battery while lik-sang was still around - it gives me 2 full psp battery charges ontop of whatever the psp's own battery holds. it has never let me down. it even gives me 2 times normal battery life with the screen on fourth brightness the whole time and the psp running at 333.
yes its a brick, yes it has a slightly dodgy cable but i wouldnt trade it for any of the competiton.
the worst battery i had was a 2200 that BUZZED every time i used it on the psp - needless to say it went back.
i do fully agree that most third party battery packs are crap - im just here to say not all of them are.

I cant agree with that at all and to me that picture looks like complete bullshit to me. Ive had a 2600mAH battery for a few months now and i havent had 1 problem and also a few friends have slighty bigger batteries than the official one and none hav had a problem.

The reason i bought mine was i found that the official one wasnt performing as well as it sould and lasting only 2-3hours so i think they may have their facts mixed up but then again it is pspfanboy so it doesnt suprise me.

i bought some battery-handles that attach to the psp and make it look like a ps2 controller. and its comfy and all but the battery sucks. its dead in like an hour, but it plugs into the psp so you use 2 battery's at once basically.

the datel x2 battery is absolutely awesome, unfortunately i got my psp nicked with it on, but running the nes emulator with a normal memory stick in the thing it lasted my full 10 hour flight to china and only dropped 2 bars. really miss it. i bought 2 new batteries off ebay one thats 2 times the normal card and one that even more, but they both suck. still decent for 7 quid tho, they last about 4 or 5 hrs on 333

the psp2 should come with solar power as a secondary energy source (although i dont play my psp outside) or make some kind of wierd supper battery that lasts for days
