The world's first fully integrated smartwatch has officially launched.
Steven Jobs step aside; Bill Gates sit down; there appears to be some exciting new players entering the gadget playing field, as Androidly, the worlds first smartwatch powered by Android, has been unveiled and released by its four creators - who are all under 25.
All other smart watches (http://www.mobile-ent.biz/news/read/smart-watch-shipments-to-cross-one-million-in-2013/021123) so far seem to have fallen short of consumer expectations, which is where the guys behind Androidly say their gadget steps up. The device can be loaded with up to 100,000 apps from the Google Play Store, has a video camera, Bluetooth, built in Wi-Fi, GPS and even a USB port on its strap.
This swiss army wrist decoration can also be used to make calls with its speakerphone or a bluetooth headset.
A 416Mhz processor drives the watch, which has 256 MB of RAM and up to 16GB of expandable memory. Androidly will be the smallest device in the world to run completely on Android.
WIth this smart watch - that its developers have called a 'digital limb' - users can download apps and music via Wi-Fi or 2.5G, and can stream media to an integrated Android device through Bluetooth. It can notify the user of news headlines, send and receive emails and deliver Twitter and Facebook feeds directly to your wrist.
Documents and contacts can be reached without the original device to hand, and its GPS can even display the weather for any desired destination.
After the announcement of the Sony SmartWatch 2 (http://www.mobile-ent.biz/news/read/sony-reveal-what-could-be-first-real-smartwatch/021738), which probably didn't cause as much excitement as had been hoped, and Google and Apple highlighting the development of their watch phones (http://www.mobile-ent.biz/news/tag/iwatch), this - considering Androidly's creators ages, and how advanced this device appears to be - could have gadget junkies quaking in their crocs.
Self taught inventor Siddhant Vats, co-founder of Androidly, said: "Androidly is the world's first proper smartwatch in the true sense of the word. It has the unrestricted powerful flexibility of Android which lets the consumer free his world and not be dependant on the smartphone as the functionalities are enabled on the smartwatch!"
Most of the apps for the robo-bracelet are free to download and the device itself is available on Kickstarter and the company website for £150.
