Tonight, Microsoft officially stops refusing to comment on rumour and speculation and starts talking cold, hard fact about Xbox 360 - the next-generation Xbox console, which will launch later this year (possibly November) according to Bill Gates.

The console will be unveiled in a 30-minute broadcast on MTV in North America, taking place at 21:30 EDT, which, just to clarify, is around 02:30 British Summer Time and 03:30 CEST for anybody reading this from Europe who plans to stay up and follow the inevitable coverage of the show on the Internet.

Microsoft has already said that it will demonstrate "the Xbox vision for the next generation," which "ensures that the user experience is always connected, always personalised and always in high definition".

Xbox VP Peter Moore recently demystified that somewhat by stating: "We'll talk name. We'll show the hardware - as much as you can do in a television show." He then added: "You'll get a little glimpse of the games, but we're saving most of that for [specialist press] at E3."

Realistically, the video footage of games is likely to prove the most significant to avid followers of the console, who have been treated in recent weeks to leaked details of the name and even photographs of the console and its accessories. Microsoft has never officially commented on any of the leaks, but hasn't rushed to damn them either.

Microsoft's also said it will show insider footage of the making of the system.

The show is being given a glitzy edge, with actor Elijah Wood taking the role of presenter, and chart-topping band The Killers interjecting now and then with performances. We're also told to expect backstage celebrity interviews.

After the show, MTV.com will take over and supply extended coverage of the system including behind-the-scenes video, photos, and "other special extras".

Viewers outside America, meanwhile, will have to wait until tomorrow evening to catch the MTV show on TV. A full list of regional timings can be found at the bottom of this item.

Microsoft - already the biggest sale outs in human history... have now become bigger sale outs!!! not that im not interested in seeing this thing unvailed. It just bothers me that they would be lame enough to do it on MTV. MTV has sucked ever since the early 90's. I wont be watching that crap fest known as Music TV (even though what little music they do show... sucks... balls.) but i look forward to hearing all about it.

Worst 30 minute presentation ever. It explains nothing you didnt already see leaked.
Also it was full of stupid shit and didnt tell anything about the specs.
What you do know is Perfect Dark Zero pulls about 100 million polygons for backgrounds and about 500,000 per character. The multiplayer support 50 character online at 1 time. Every object in the game is destoryable include other peoples weapsons. My guess is the system is about 4.5ghz, 256ram, ATi 9600 variant.

totally agree :)
i don't have mtv, so seeing all that lame, annoying over-hyped attitude was a serious shock! (if that means something lol, please excuse my poor english...).
all i have to say is that the forward button was a gret help ^_^

those 3 seconds where you could see the xbox360 on the horizontal (at 2 metres from the camera and behind the show host was definitely the most intense moment of television history ever!! LOL xD

BEHOLD, THE FACT SHEET

http://www.xbox.com/en-US/xbox360/factsheet.htm

not differant from the leaked specs as far as i can tell. this thing seems more like super computer than a gaming machine.. of course, thats what i said before the first Xbox's release. I believe that this will be the last generation of conoles without you wearing a special suit that will enable you to enter the cyber world physically. this sucka is a technological masterpiece, and its just begging "LINUX, LINUX!" cant you hear it screaming? "HACK ME! HACK ME!" this seems to be the mother of all consoles/ gaming machines hardware wise. It says to expect a release in the upcomming holidays. by then perhapes computers will make this thing look obselite, but who knows, right now its a freaking powerfull machine. Its so powerfull, it makes me want to cry a little bit.

now if they are cheap - say $300 and they are hacked... well that might just drop the price of computer hardware. i dont think anyone could complain with a $300 computer that already exceeds the average home and buissness computer. hell, even if its $400 its still reasonable. im not sure why im rambling on and on about it... mabey just because im really amazed by these specs.

i think the linux community is going to fall in love with this machine (which is ironic, because it is a microsoft product) perhapes that is microsofts plan?!
