i just checked the network update and 3.40 came up. so i just figured id give u the heads u. 3.40 is offically out under network update. (usa at least)

Support for PLAYSTATION Network titles has been expanded.

The method of managing certificates under [Game] has been changed.

Certainly not one of the more exciting updates in recent memory. Coincidentally, the PLAYSTATION 3 has also been updated today. The PS3 can now supposedly play downloaded PS1 titles, and by using the two systems in tandem, one can play a game on PS3, save, and then continue playing that title on the go. Unfortunately, as of this writing, we've been unable to make this work.

To download the latest update, run Network Update on your PSP.

I'm pretty sure that means you can play the ones you download from the playstation store, and MAYBE legit (not burned) copies you bought on CD.

It's typical, they only brought it out cause DAX cracked 3.30

Maybe now they're will be a homebrew way of loading PBP PSOne games on the PS3?
At least it would have been a step into homebrew.:(

Actually, they know that a new update wouldn't do anything... 3.30 still isn't downgradable, so there is no advantage.

I'm glad to hear downloadable PS1 games are now playable on the PS3 :)

then whats the point of this update if it is unable to work.

the feature to download ps1 games is there but sony is just promoting it its not exactly off the ground yet, kinda like when firmware 3.0 came out we wasnt allow to play ps1 titles on it for a month or so and the feature was already in!!

Yeah, I have to agree: The point of this release was only because 3.30 has been customized. Why bother customizing 3.40 when nothing even yet requires 3.30? DAX, don't waste your time. 3.40 isn't needed for anything, and brings nothing even remotely attractive to the table.

Unless, of course, you just want to keep Sony busy making useless fw releases.

Does this not frighten anyone?

This sounds a bit fishy on Sony's part............

found this quote from dark alex in max console forums.

Dark_AleX:
"The only file that doesn't decrypt is idcheck.prx. It's easy to modify psardumper to not stop at that file, whose keys doesn't seem to be referenced in any of the decrypter modules, and it doesn't seem to be used at all either, probably it is a module for the future...

No need to say the decryption of that file is not neccesary at all for popsloader or 3.40 OE.

"

could that be the certificate change that sony did in 3.40 dark alex maybe referencing to?

I wish Sony would just give it a rest.....its becoming more of a chore now simply renaming files 3.30.pbp and updating. They need to let it go........its over, the war is won.

My, lots of things seem to have happened while I was away. Official firmware version 3.30 was released not too long ago, now 3.40 is here. I wonder if Dark_Alex will set about to make 3.40 OE anytime. That would be ace.

You may have something buddy. Maybe they found a hole before us and fixed it. Maybe with a little probing it could be possible to downgrade from 3.30 to 1.50. I wonder if anyone is looking into this.
