The original Google and ASUS-developed Nexus 7 was launched around a year ago, and the pair have now released a shiny new version, again called the Nexus 7, which makes the grand boast of having "the world’s sharpest seven-inch tablet screen."
It sports more than 2.3 million pixels, equivalent to 323 pixels per inch, meaning text, images and video will have HD quality.
Google will first show love to its Stateside kin by launching in the US on July 30th, claiming more unspecified countries will follow.
The new mini slate weighs 290g and battery power will enable nine hours of video playback or ten hours of web browsing or e-reading, with wireless charging on offer if it does run out of juice.
Google's new Play Games app will act as a rival to Apple's Game Centre, allowing gamers to track achievements and compete with friends or other players globally, with titles like Gameloft's Asphalt 8: Airborne optimised specifically for the device.
Baudouin Corman, VP of publishing for the Americas, Gameloft, said: "Asphalt 8 is the ideal game to demonstrate the great capabilities of Google's newest device. With incredible graphics, and lifelike physics, Nexus 7 helps push tablet gaming forward and brings our vision for Asphalt 8 to reality."
With some families sharing tablets between a household, the 7 comes with customisable spaces to let each user have customisable spaces for home screens, wallpaper, apps, and other content, which is achieved with the new Android Jelly Bean 4.3 upgrade.
In terms of specs, the tablet comes with a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 chip, 2GB of RAM, wi-fi or 4G LTE – the latter is supported by 'hundreds of global networks,' scratch resistant glass, 1.2MP front-facing camera and 5MP rear camera, NFC, and an 8.65mm depth.
