ok. Sorry for being a noob but how do install this?

I've always been a bit worried about messing with this stuff and the most I've ever changed is the text on my psp and installed custome firmwares. I've never bricked my psp thankfully but I dont want to start either.

I'm currently on 3.40 OE-A

I presume I'm going to need software to install this.

Does this cause problems in the future for updating or changing my firmware? Do I need to un install the plugin before changing firmwares?

If so how do I do that?

Any help would be greatly appriciated!!

HOW TO INSTALL:

1. Unrar the archive.

2. Go to the recovery screen. If you don't know how to do that, you need to hold down the "R" button while powering up your PSP.

3. Go to "Advanced ->", then "Toggle USB (flash0)".

4. Not required, but I would back up the entire contents of "Flash0" onto a hard drive before flashing anything like this.

5. Go to "A:\vsh\resource". "A" being whatever your PSP drive is.

6. Copy & paste topmenuplugin.rco to that directory. If it doesn't ask you if you are certain to replace that file, you have the wrong directory.

7. Exit recovery and enjoy.

sorry if this seems like a really dumb question, ive never bothered with the topmenu stuff before, ive set the black icons with the green tree background but the "free space" etc text is all white and it spoils the look a bit, is this easily changed? is this a matter of changing the font somewhere?

I was also having trouble doing this. When I asked for help I got it!!

Theres instructions on how to install this on page 3 of this post thingie.

I'd have been stuck without it!

Now all I need is a nice volume and battery set and i'll be sorted............that was a big hint by the way.

those black icons are possibly the nicest custom icons i've seen.

edit - sorry, but one thing spoils it..... the use of the IE logo for the web-browser.

why???

please please PLEASE change this.

also, Evolve... do you have a general site why you host links to all of your releases? i would like to see everything you have to offer, and the standard is very high.

however, not even adding a readme / filename for recognition (eg. to show 3.03 or 3.40 versions) is something you should consider correcting.

do the white ones work with 3.40 OE-A or just the black ones?

Volsung
May 3rd, 2007, 08:18
Hi, just wondering if anyone else is having the same problem, I've swapped the topmenu_plugin.rco for the one in the resource folder, however, when i quit out of the recovery menu, all I get is a bricked PSP, I backed up the flash0 folder, so I replaced the topmenu with my original and my PSP works fine again. I'm on 3.40oe-a with a TA-082 motherboard, anyone got a workaround?

SpooForBrains
May 3rd, 2007, 11:24
I second the vote for having a different icon for the web browser ... not big with the IE love over here :)

Also, those of us that don't run Windows can't use the RCO icon editor, so if some kind person can post pre-compiled versions of the theme they'd get much love from me.

Hungry Horace
May 3rd, 2007, 12:18
@ Evolve - like the new game icon i must admit.... just that IE logo to go!

Shiori
May 3rd, 2007, 20:31
I am also having the bricking issue.

It the icons worked fine for a little while. But now they brick my psp? And I have to back up to my older 3.40 0E-A topmenu...

Even using a flasher EBOOT does not help... Just really wondering how to get them working again. ^_^

Any ideas? / Fix?

Volsung
May 3rd, 2007, 21:25
Yep! I'm feeling you're pain, love these icons and can't wait to use them, but my psp doth protest... hopefully someone can help... pretty please?...

Hi Shiori, I've had my problem solved by Evolve no less, If you link to his xmb site (www.evolvexmb.co.nr), and go to the help section he posted links to my enquiry (I'm osiris37)for some different versions, the second one worked. Hope you have the same outcome as me, they look great on the PSP!

All the best.

ok, i have 3.03 oe-A. do i need oe-c or can i still use the one i have cuz when i go into recovery mode, and advance options, there is no "toggle USB" HELP!

Volsung
May 5th, 2007, 22:54
Not sure if it's the same mrk44 but on my 3.40oe-a you need to go to advanced options and select the toggle USB (flash0) option, this should bring up your internal folders on your PC as long as you have the USB linked, from there open the vsh/resource folder and replace the topmenu. I always back up my Original files onto my PC first though (I just backed up the whole flash0 in case of problems).

Hope that helps.

Shiori
May 6th, 2007, 02:19
I fixed it awhile ago.

I think your solution may have also worked.

- I think it was dependant on the files in your FLASH1.

Considering mine had been turned to garbage by something, i'm happy that once I pumped FLASH1 back to its "normal" state (I hope) it all worked fine.
