Microsoft has reversed another of its policies for the Xbox One, and will now include a headset with all versions of the console.
The reversal was revealed - though not acknowledged - by Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb in
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lbrmAsxJPv4 for the Xbox One's Day One edition. Though the Day One edition is a special version of the console only available at launch, Hryb confirmed that, "both the Day One and standard editions of the console include [a] mono-chat headset."
The new headset has been improved over the Xbox 360 for both comfort and audio quality.
Initially, Microsoft did not intend to pack-in a headset (http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2013-06-26-no-headset-in-the-box-for-xbox-one), though it was going to sell them as separate peripherals. Instead, in a statement issued to the press, it placed emphasis on the functionality of the new Kinect.
"Each Xbox One includes the new Kinect sensor, with a highly sensitive multi-array microphones designed to enable voice inputs and chat as a system-level capability, both in-game and with Skype and other experiences. For gamers who prefer a headset, we have a variety of offerings that you can find on the Xbox Wire."
