View Full Version : PDVX - DivX Xvid MPEG Player PSP

Ok, here is the story.

I wanted to know how far DivX decoding had come on the PSP because I had never come across a usable player. If you must know, I was looking for a way to view old Power Rangers episodes on my PSP without having to re-encode them. I came across a Korean EBOOT on a database website labelled 'PSP Media Player'. I downloaded it and tried it out. After navigating through some menus I worked out where to put the video files and how to load them. The result is a working AVI player for the PSP.

It works as fully as can be expected. There are some bugs. DivX and Xvid play at full frame rate (25fps/30fps) with fully synchronised sound at 266MHZ. It could possibly play some WMV videos but this takes some trial and error. The MPEG videos seem to work. There is an option to change the clockspeed.

I have redone the main menu to include some English translation of the Korean text which make it usable. I have also written instructions which were not present in the original release.

Remember that I did not write the code for this so I'm not responsible for anything that goes wrong.

P.S. I know this might look like a fake. It isn't. Just Google my coder name "Raydar PSP" and you'll see that I have released software in the past and I'm not interested in messing about.

A Raydar Package

Yeah this is PSPMediaPlayer, it has been out for a while. PSPUpdates released a translated version of this a while ago, it's been on my PSP for months. It just seems some videos the audio doesn't EXACTLY match up with the video sometimes but it's nice though. I haven't downloaded this one but I'm sure it's probably no different then the one I have already that's been translated, thanks for any efforts though you put in.

You can see video if it's not larger than 480x272 =) That means you STILL HAVE TO convert your video before watching. Too bad.

You would have to resize not convert, which is much faster and offers better quality compared to converting the video to mp4 format.

How much faster is changing size vs. changing video format? Cause I hate converting avi's to mp4 if all I have to do is change the resoltuion on my AVI's and I can watch them on my PSP =]

Man, we realy need a good DIVX player. I just want divx/xvid and subtitles and stuff like that. Why is that never done before? What are the holdbacks? it would be awesome to have SRT support and Divx. Give it a fancy XBMC like GUI, and it will be one of the coolest apps ever.

May 7th, 2007, 15:15
yeah... someone should really do that. I once sent an email to someone at mplayer, and said he might consider porting it to the psp if I 'em send one... Maybe I should try emailing someone at XBMC, to see what happens.

Hi Radar.

It be great if you can do some updates to the movie player but i do believe that the version of the psplayer was an old one. I wouldn't know where to get the source code of the newer version but here is the app plus some usefull settings to use to get xvids running properly.

hxxp://www.ipmart-forum.com/showthread.php?t=155966

I don't know why people are so stressed about converting, with machines at the speed today it really doesn't take long at all and xvid destroy's mpg, mp4 in size and quality especially when using the right application.

The link will also give a link to usefull applications to use when converting and also does batch conversions.

This is my number one wanted feature on PSP homebrew right now but the problem with this is that it has resolution restrictions and the playback doesn't appear to be flawless. Someone, anyone, help to get this fully working.

Xilisoft AVI MPEG Converter convert avi file to MPEG1, MPEG2. You can select the video and audio codec, setup the parameters of output. In addition, the software provides a powerful way to convert MPEG1, MPEG2 formats to AVI files.

Just put your AVi files into the favourites folder for that program and it should run perfectly. You don't even have to resize anything

In the main interface to add a shortcut key L + box for switching whether to read the file preview information (the same directory as some netizens too many files, if youread the preview will be slow, especially in the use nethost function)ipad 2 case (http://www.thegerar.com/ipad-2-case-with-smart-cover-ipad-2-case-smart-cover-back-cover-for-ipad-2.html).
