My favorite gaming setup I've ever had was a single piece of furniature from one of those 3 piece bookshelf things (with glass doors and the center having a big opán space, ya kno?) with all the doors taken off, then I had two 3ft 3 driver kenwood speakers on the sides, a really nice old tube receiver to drive sound, a monitor TV (not a computer monitor, a monitor as in it had no built in speakers). The TV was an old sony trinitron from something like 88 or so, it was crazy because it had an input that looked like an IDE cable that was apparently for like a C64 or Amiga or some other pre-x86 style computer (although it required a special adapter to use) then it also had s-video. The shelf thing was divided into three main sections and the bottommost section had a small shelf partitioning it. The top shelf held the sound equipment along with a second smaller set of speakers that worked in tandem with the aforementioned kenwood ones, the section below it in the middle held the tv which was about 25" but must have weighed a good 150+ lbs, and the bottom section held all the game stuff. At the time I had this set up, I had a SNES and DC hooked up and about 20 games for each. This was in a semi-hallway area, and directly across from it was a sofa, leaving about 3 feet between them. I spent a whole christmas break on that couch in my basement and over the time that I had that setup I beat many a game. Good times. Other than being plain 'ol cozy, this was my favorite setup as I often had groups of friends over for movienights on the same setup (actually I remember one in specific where I somehow hooked up 3 TVs to the same thing so that a larger group could watch) and I spent many a time on that couch with my then-girlfriend.

When I get home from school (1 week) I'll post pics of my current setups (which is 3 places) and my plans for a new setup (which I hope will surpass my current favorite ).

I think my setup is pretty good, I have a PS1 and PS2 as well but they are in the cupboard cause all of my games work on the PS3.
The big foam thumb is what I use to raise my laptop up a bit when I am playing games. It also is the perfect shape, the open bit is exactly where the main CPU/Mobo fan is.
The big black thing with the Blue text screen on it is my sound system controller and is also a DVD player and I can plug my USB stick into it with music. its really good its a "Samsung Free style cinema system HT-X200" and the black desktop PC sized thing behind it and to the left of the PC is a subwoofer.

Nice setup even though it's messy.
What's with the clock is it meant to look like an LCD tv or something?
