According to Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Debian), the initial release of Debian (http://www.debian.org/) happened 16 August 1993. In other words, it's Debian's birthday and you're all invited (http://www.debian.org/News/2013/20130809). 'During the Debian Birthday (http://bits.debian.org/2013/08/20-birthday-debian.html), the Debian conference will open its doors to anyone interested in finding out more about Debian and Free Software, inviting enthusiasts, users, and developers to a half day of talks relating to Free Software, the Debian Project, and the Debian operating system.' Over the years, Debian has been forked a number of times (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Linux_distributions#Debian-based). Some of the more well-known forks are Ubuntu (http://www.ubuntu.com/) and Knoppix (http://www.knoppix.org/). The latest release of Debian pure blend was Debian 7.1 'Wheezy' on June 15th 2013 (http://www.debian.org/News/2013/20130615)."
