Alrighty, I have an older iBook G3. It had Ubuntu 5. something. It failed on me today. I was going to upgrade to Kubuntu 6. something. Now here's my problem.

I burned the CD image to a CD-RW (which is beat up and it won't read it). I was going to download the DVD image, but the stupid server quits downloading at 300 KBs. I've tried bittorrent, but there's nobody on there.

Can someone provide an alternative link to the DVD image?

Yep, I have.

I'll just download the CD version.

Okay, firstly sorry for the double post.

Second of all, I can boot up Kubuntu (after it crashes to a prompt, and I just hit startx) and it gets to KDE. But when I start the installer, it "crashes" and can't continue.

I'm trying to boot Kubuntu 6.06.1 PPC on a iBook G3.

run the ubuntu fiesty live cd.

or actually if your ibook is older, run a alternate install disk.

why K anyway?

There's no Feisty Fawn (who made up the names) for PCC.

And, I like KDE. It's kooler.

I gave up on Kubuntu because I have a short fuse. I downloaded Fedora 6, which is really good and I just use that.

There are some odd problems that happen when booting up though (nothing big). For example, when it is booting, it stops and a bunch of text goes by about "denied" something, for 15 seconds and then keeps going.

Whew! I've never had any crap like this from Linux! Installation and use have always been a "breezy badger" for me!

Just go here (http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download) and download the 7.04 and when you burn the image burn it at the slowest speed because if you burn it too fast it won't work.

I'm using Fedora Core 6 now. I gave up on Kubuntu.

Fedora is as good as it's PC counterpart.

Linux is like Windows 95. Get Windows XP or Vista, true OS ;)

B.S.

I like Linux's sense of control. If you want to do something, I can just go through the Terminal.

I have Mac OS X 10.3 dual booting with Fedora. That's my "true OS".

I know what X means, you feel you have full control over everything on linux, you aren't pushed into everything like windows and its mainly open source.

Very clever, what you did there. :p

Soo, how is Fedora compared to Ubuntu? Can't be bothered switching through OSes like mad so I figured I'd ask someone whose opinion has some form of value to me as opposed to trying it out myself. =)

I'm inclined to say that I still prefer Windows for now, though, as for some reason I can't run an simple executable to allow me to talk on Ventrilo after the debacle of getting it to work 100% via Wine without having to have it as the active window >_<

I don't personaly like fedora (i used to be a big fedora user)

it just doesn't seem as friendly as ubuntu.

use crossover pro, I find it smoother than regular wine.
