via PS3 Fanboy (http://www.ps3fanboy.com/2007/05/14/rumor-full-list-of-updates-for-firmware-2-00-released/)

One of the regular posters on the official PlayStation Boards (http://boardsus.playstation.com/playstation/board/message?board.id=ps3&thread.id=1341486&view=by_date_ascending&page=208#) recently posted a supposed leak of the full list of updates for the PlayStation 3 release of firmware 2.00. The poster has a pretty high-level of 'forum street cred,' having released information on previous firmware releases that turned out to be valid, but we're still a little skeptical. After the initial posting, she and SCEA edited her post to nothingness - but SCEA has allowed the quoted firmware update features to stay up in the replies. The source of the list was suppose to have come from a Sony Press Site which required credentials - info not there anymore. Unfortunately, no time frame given for release of the update, but it's implied that it's soon.

Major updates:

XMB™ (XrossMediaBar) is now accessible during gameplay. [No further information given.]
Wallpaper feature has been added.
Additional visualizations have been added. [Nice!]A ton of little tweaks are also included, listed in the standard obtuse terminology Sony always uses for their firmware update lists. You can see the complete list below.

sounds quite nice to me...
i would have appreciate a little update on video compatibility (wmv, divx, mkv maybe?) but it still adds some great features. i still wonder why they didn't implement wallpaper in th first place... will i update? that is still a good question!

Original website here. (http://www.psu.com/node/10962) I can already confirm that the info from Sony Press center isn't listed anywhere. So it must have been removed/posted too early, or psu made the whole thing up.

Hmmm, if its true it will be very nice :)

Lets hope.

I hope this is true, and it isn't much to ask for. I would find it far less believable if it said something outrageous, but this update reminds me of the PSP 2.00 update. I, too, would love to see support of WMV playback. I don't understand how the PSP can have it but not the PS3.

This sounds almost too good to be true...

I am hoping that it is true, but it wouldn't surprise me if it was a hoax.

yeah indeed.

sony have non-stop said that his was meant to be some sort of media center.

I personally think it should support all video files.

This seems pretty real to me, or if it is fake it really IS a good job, because it's written in the tradition Sony we-post-next-firmware's-features style.
But I think it's real. And not unreachable.

I'd like to see this implemented as well, but if Sony can't/won't they should at least give us a converter on the PS3 to convert the files to a supported format. At least then we don't need to use converters on computer, USB thumb-drives or memory sticks to transfer converted movies to the PS3.

Apparently the update may NOT be true. The original poster of said information on the Official Playstation Boards has indicated that her account was hijacked when the information was posted (as in, she didn't post it, but someone who stole her account did).

Whether or not she is using this as a cover to get away from forum badmouthing for posting undocumented information, is not certain, but I will let you decide that.

Attention!!!

I am now fully aware of the circumstances pertaining to something the was posted by my account (Leah). Fact is, I have been in the dark about what's been going on until today and it has had me worried.

Maybe I'm a bit naive, but something should have clicked when I had trouble logging on this afternoon. I never had the oppertunity to post such information, as I wasn't anywhere near my computer to do such a thing (Mother's Day).

To put an end to the now titled "Conspiracy", I would like to state that I'm souly and completely sorry for whatever this may have caused. As a side note, PLEASE don't ever take something posted (whether by me, or anyone) as fact unless it is provided by the creator's of such software/hardware (SCE).

Once again I'm sorry for the misunderstandings, and taking precautions so it will never happen again.

You can't understand how the PSP can have it, but not the PS3? Simple, the PSP DOESN'T have WMV playback, only WMA playback.

Officially no, but some Homebrew can run WMV files.

Most of this is probably true. A nice rounded number like 2.0 will definitely have a massive amount of new features.

Thing is, the original poster who mentioned this on the Official PS Boards (which I believe resulted in the subsequent posting at PSU and here) stated that her account had been hijacked during the period when said post was made.

Now I don't know about the rest of you all, but that sounds really fishy. I can come up with two reasons why she would say this:

1)Her account really was hijacked, even though I find it hard to believe someone would goto such lengths to make a simple post. Then again her street-cred may have had a role in this.

2)She might have had an ill-informed source and later, not wishing to destroy her street-cred because of this, decided to create the facade of her account being hijacked, yadda yadda.

Personally, I can care less about 'street-cred'; while I will state that post-count does indicate it to a degree (I believe the majority of forum goers would sooner believe someone with 1000 posts under their belt, than someone with 3), I think how a person represents themself is more important.

Point is, if this was a lie and she is trying to cover it up with another lie to keep her street-cred, then said individual wouldn't have my respect. Just come out and say it was BS if it was...
