Rayman Legends may have dropped its Wii U exclusivity, but Ubisoft’s title has still been a success for Nintendo’s machine.
The Wii U SKU accounted for 45 per cent of the UK’s total week one sales of the game. It was also released on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC, with a Vita version to follow later this month.
It also outperformed the week one sales of its predecessor, Rayman Origins, by 20 per cent.
Rayman Legends was initially supposed to be a launch game for Nintendo’s machine, but a little over a month before its scheduled launch it was delayed (http://www.mcvuk.com/news/read/rayman-legends-slips-to-2013/0104131) until 2013.
However, just three weeks before its rescheduled February 28th release (http://www.mcvuk.com/news/read/rayman-legends-uk-date-confirmed/0107777) Ubisoft revealed not only that the game was no longer a Wii U exclusive (http://www.mcvuk.com/news/read/now-rayman-legend-backtracks-on-wii-u-exclusivity-gets-new-release-date/0110555), but also that the Wii U version would not be released until much later in the year (http://www.mcvuk.com/news/read/now-rayman-legend-backtracks-on-wii-u-exclusivity-gets-new-release-date/0110555) alongside the other SKUs.
Ubisoft subsequently insisted that the game remained a Wii U system seller (http://www.mcvuk.com/news/read/ubisoft-rayman-legends-remains-a-wii-u-system-seller-despite-multiformat-release/0113107) despite going multi-format.
