Forget buying a new 4gb to replace my problem-prone counterfeit, I might as well just get an 8gb now :D

Correct 1.5 cant recognize a 8gb but 3.40 OE-A sure can:thumbup:. This is a pretty good deal but i already have a 4gb and I'm satisfied with mine.

I would be careful when buying this, Fry's restocks returned, broken items, so you're very likely to get something bad.

Well, yeah, but as most of the homebrew executes under 1.5 kernel half of that stick will still be inaccessible for homebrew. You have to make sure the homebrew is written to the first 4GB of the stick and I have no idea how you'd do that.

Personally I'd rather have a couple of 4GBs.

It doesn't matter if part of the 1.5 kernel is used in the 3.40 OE firmware. That part won't limit the usage of an 8gb memory stick. And yes this is still way too much to buy. Still a ripoff although it would be quite a luxury.

I'll wait until they increase the size of the memory to something that can hold at least three movies, then I'll move up from my 4GB. I still have a 1GB so I'm set in the homebrew department for now.

I think the price is getting reasonable. I live in Canada and the price of the 8GB MS Pro Duo is $350 (buy about 2 PSPs). I think $100 CAD will be a great price.

Remember the Datel PSP 4GB Hard Drive. I had a friend that bought it. $250 down the drain and a year later the price of the 4GB MS Pro Duo went down about $200 to about $100. Whenever he plays PSP i just laugh at him 'cause the thing is HUGE.

8 gb is awesome.. i dont think i have money for it now..
having 20 emulators with lots of roms, many homebrews and about 10 psx games on my psp would be lovely..

i only have 1 gb memory stick duo.. and can only hold up to 1 psx game and not even more space left for at least a little more neo geo roms.. but i was happy when i got 1 gb memory stick for the first time to play tekken 3/bloody roar 2/duke nukem time to kill on my psp.. but now i just seem to want more.

Yeah seriously, whats the deal with the counterfiet sticks? what do people mean when they say that?

the stick is fake
it uses cheap quality parts and flash memory and tries to resemble real cards just by using the companies housing

they are unreliable, more prone to data corruption, short flash memory life, and over all poor performance with speeds and loading and writing

and I think its funny how n00bs try to brag that their 4GB $35 stick is way better then retail because they cant admit they were tricked that they bought it from ebay or something >.>

what he meant to say was:

only 2.80 and above accepts 8gb

Anyways, $150 is a GREAT deal for 8Gigs. I remember paying $120 for my 1Gig exactly 2 years ago.

I'll wait till it drops to $100 and pick one up - I have an official sandisk 4g and it's awesome. Currently have 6 PS1 games, 3 PSP isos, and a huge selection of console roms (including all CPS1/2 games).

OK, I cannot personally verify the 4GB limit for homebrew. However, I have seen at least two posts in the help forum describing exactly the problem I mentioned. I have also verified for myself that WPA support DOES NOT WORK for 1.5 kernel homebrew.

Let me spell it out:

1.5 kernel homebrew executes under the 1.5 kernel. This means it cannot address upwards of 4GB on memory sticks, nor can it use WPA. Doesn't matter if the VSH can, the homebrew CANNOT.

No one else has posted in these threads offering a solution, other than to make sure that your homebrew and ROMs are written to the first 4GB of the memory stick.

If you can prove me wrong, by all means do so, but I'll wager that I'm correct.

That's not to say this stick is useless. I'd love to have a stick I could ram full of playstation games. However don't expect to have a happy homebrew experience with these sticks, OK?

you are absolutely correct, so only homebrew won't work on 8gb but other things will.

anyways i'll wait for the price to drop more then i'll get it for sure, (even though i already have a 256mb, 1gb, 2gb and a 4gb:D)

What I mean by counterfeit is that the memory card I have was made in china, and is not actually a Sony product. To see if you have a counterfeit card, go to memory stick in the xmb and hit triangle, than press x on information.....if it doesn't say "magicgate: supported"......than its a fake. Mine says "magicgate: unknown". My stick looks real, and until a few days ago I didn't even know it was fake. Most likely, if you buy a card on ebay (especially if its shipped from china), it's fake. My card even came in packaging....I never suspected anything. The chinese counterfeit everything, including cars.

Yeah. I paid $120.00 for my 2GB Ultra II just a little over a year ago.

The PRICE is an OK deal but I'm pretty sure its just SONY sticks that are 8GB. And I don't like those nearly as much as the Sandisk sticks.

When Sandisk puts out 8GB sticks, I'll seriously consider getting one.

Also, I am not happy to read that 8GB sticks may interfere with 1.50 kernel homebrew so that is a big turn off.

Although, I'd mostly be loading the stick up with PSX games and that is under 3.40 OE so it should not be a problem.

Maybe Dark_AleX or someone will find a way to get the 8GB sticks working 100% with homebrew. That would be great.
