http://www.blogcdn.com/www.engadget.com/media/2013/09/microsoft-surface-rt-review-340_620x340.jpgWe've seen rumors of new Surface covers (http://www.engadget.com/2013/09/05/surface-power-cover-rumor/) and docks (http://www.engadget.com/2013/09/06/windows-8-surface-desktop-dock/); now, it's time for rumors regarding the tablets themselves. Both Neowin (http://www.neowin.net/news/surface-rt-2-tegra-4-1080p-screen-and-more) and WinSuperSite (http://winsupersite.com/windows-rt/surface-2-details-emerge?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter) claim that the next-generation Surface with Windows RT (http://www.engadget.com/2012/10/23/microsoft-surface-rt-review/) will simply be called the Surface 2, and should represent a performance boost rather than a complete reinvention. In addition to the already confirmed Tegra 4 (http://www.engadget.com/2013/08/08/nvidia-jen-hsun-huang-microsoft-surface-2/) processor, the new Microsoft slate reportedly includes a sharper 1080p display and 4GB of RAM in an otherwise familiar design. The only noticeable changes to the form factor would be a more flexible two-stage kickstand and a white option, according to tipsters. There's no word on when the Surface 2 might reach stores, although the mid-October launch (http://www.engadget.com/2013/08/27/microsoft-windows-8-1-rtm/) of Windows 8.1 would certainly be convenient. We'll likely find out more at the September 23rd event (http://www.engadget.com/2013/09/09/microsoft-surface-launch-nyc/).
