HMV has said that the PS3 is meeting sales targets, according to a recent story (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=163522) over at gamesindustry.biz. HMV Head of Games Tim Ellis stated that "Sales remain in line with expectations, occasionally even exceeding them.”

"We're looking forward to further games releases, and when the time's right, a suitable price revision to take the console to its next level of sales.” Apparently all three next-gen consoles have been selling well, with Ellis stating that "From a retail and customer perspective it's great to have three games heavyweights relatively matched and vying for market domination. This creative tension is leading to fantastic innovative technology and brilliant games."

Even if sales of the PS3 are going OK in the UK, they've been less than stellar (http://www.pspsps.tv/2007/04/wii_outsells_ps3_by_more_than.html) elsewhere. The PS3’s high price point is definitely off-putting to some. Sony may be planning to support the PS3 for a while (http://www.pspsps.tv/2007/05/sony_committed_to_ps3_for_ten.html), but high sales of the console now will help the PS3 to secure some more of those elusive exclusives.

Well thats one of the consequences of a world-wide launch. It may sell great in some regions and poorly in others. Since people tend to only see "the world that surrounds them" they may say its selling bad from their perceptions of said "world".

Most of the people who bad mouth a system (either out of jealously, spite, or fanboyism) tend not to research the facts thoroughly.

Granted when one compares the sales of the PS3 to the other next-gen console and the "My First Console by Fischer Price" (might as well be...) they see that the PS3 is indeed doing poorly.

Basically the PS3 is selling according to expectations and it's quite amazing that it's still doing that with such a price... so no doom and gloom for Sony... however it is true that sales had better pick up in order for Sony to secure any exclusives.

In others minds, if it ain't selling like the Wii it's a failure. Same with teh DS versus PSP. The PSP is selling well, Sony's making money and has more games that are better rated. But since it's not doing DS numbers... OMG FAIL!

It's like you won 10 million dollars, and I won 5 million and you making fun of me for only winning 5 million, and I'm like, well it'd be nice if I won 10 million... but I'm still 5 million richer so I'm happy...
