Namco Bandai’s free-to-play frenzy seems to be continuing.
A translated Famitsu article from Gematsu (http://gematsu.com/2013/09/soulcalibur-lost-swords-announced-for-playstation-3) says that a free-to-play version of Soul Calibur is currently in development for PS3. There’s no word yet on when it might be released.
The release follows the release of two other free-to-play Namco titles – smartphone release Tekken Card Tournament (http://www.mcvuk.com/news/read/free-to-play-tekken-card-tournament-passes-1m-downloads/0114025) and PS3 and PC racer Ridge Racer Driftopia (http://www.mcvuk.com/news/read/free-to-play-ridge-racer-enters-closed-beta/0119492).
A F2P Ace Combat (http://www.mcvuk.com/news/read/ace-combat-going-free-to-play-on-ps3/0119596) title is also in the works.
Don’t forget that Namco Bandai was also the first publisher to indulge Nintendo’s free-to-play curiosity by releasing an F2P version of Wii U title Tank! Tank! Tank! (http://www.mcvuk.com/news/read/tank-tank-tank-goes-free-to-play-on-wii-u/0110760) earlier this year.
