Two iconic puzzle games are to be cross-pollinated in an all-new project underway in Japan, according to reports.
Japan games publication Famitsu claims that Sega has secured a deal with The Tetris Company to merge both Puyo Puyo and Tetris into a single game. According to a Siliconera translation (http://www.siliconera.com/2013/09/10/puyo-puyo-tetris-has-to-be-this-years-most-surprising-collaboration/), the project is in development for PS3, PS Vita, Nintendo 3DS and Wii U. Its expected release date is 2014, according to the report.

Sega rebranded the title Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine for the Mega Drive in Europe, while Nintendo reskinned it as Kirby's Ghost Trap for the Super Nintendo.
The match-four puzzle game distinguished itself by allowing Puyos to be connected vertically and diagonally, or any arrangement of four pieces as long as they are attached.
Tetris, which stands today as one of the most recognisable video games in the world, has in recent years spread onto various social networks, websites and mobile devices. In January 2010, rights holder The Tetris Company announced that the game has sold more than 100 million copies on smartphones worldwide.
According to Famitsu, the puzzler mash-up mixes both Tetris and Puyo Puyo's systems. Both a singleplayer mode and multiplayer battle-mode will merge both elements of clearing horizontal lines and stacking vertical Puyos for chain reactions.
It was not stated which companies are publishing or developing the title.
