Wired News has published a great review of the reaction to the PSP firmware update thats takes your PSP from 1.0 to 1.5.

The original Japanese PSP ran on version 1.0 and was surprisingly easy to hack. As a result several developers quickly created applications to run natively on the PSP, including the famous GameBoy emulator.

Updating firmware to 1.5 (or buying a North American PSP) put a stop to all of that, although the rumour is that hackers are nearly at the point where 1.5 will be cracked as well.

PSP owners in the know are rejecting the firmware update, with many saying that they would buy an extra PSP, rather than lose the 1.0 that thet know and love.

After lurking around many forums for almost 2 months now, I personally believe that there won't be much to see in the homebrew sense on firmware 1.5.
I guess I'm ready to go shopping for another PSP :P
