Apple’s new iPhone 5S will launch on September 20th, but customers won’t be able to preorder the smartphone.
Following the phone’s announcement by Apple (http://www.pcr-online.biz/news/read/iphone-5s-officially-announced-out-20th-september/031868) alongside thecheaper iPhone 5C (http://www.pcr-online.biz/news/read/iphone-5c-officially-announced-by-apple/031867), Apple has slowly released further details about several new features, including the long-rumoured fingerprint scanner. Apple has also spoken about the 8 megapixel 'iSight' camera and 'True Tone' flash system on the 5S, as well as mentioning improvements contained in iOS 7, including iTunes Radio, "a free internet radio service based on the music you listen to on iTunes."
Apple has also said that any customer who buys either the 5S or 5C at an Apple retail store will be offered the free 'Personal Setup' service, which aims to assist customers in setting up their email, showing apps from the App Store and showing them how to use other services.
In the UK, the new iPhones will be available through EE, O2, Three, Carphone Warehouse, Phones 4u and any Apple Authorised Resellers.
For the SIM-free models, Apple has posted RRPs of £549 for the 16GB 5S, £629 for the 32GB model and £707 for the largest-storage 64GB version.
O2 has already announced its tariffs and contract details (http://www.pcr-online.biz/news/read/first-uk-iphone-5s-and-5c-prices-and-tariffs-detailed/031882) for the 5S, with the phone available from £37 a month with an upfront fee of £119.99 for a 16GB 5S, unlimited minutes and texts and 1GB of 3G data.
For £10 more, customers can add 5GB of faster speed 4G data.
Vodafone have also released details of its prices, with the 4G-enabled 5S able to access Vodafone's 'Ultrafast' 4G network from launch day with either Sky Sports Mobile TV or Spotify Premium included.
The 5S will be available on both Vodafone's Red 4G and Red 3G 24-month plans. Vodafone is also offering 4G-ready SIM Only plans from £26 and 12-month plans.
The 24-month Red 4G tariff starts at £47 monthly with a £79 charge for the 16GB 5S, 6GB of data and six months of Sky Sports or Spotify and stretches up to £57 with a £99 one-off fee for a 64GB 5S, 12GB of montly data and 24 months of Sky Sports or Spotify.
Vodafone says that its 4G-ready plans come with "a minimum of 6GB data (that’s the standard 2GB you get with Vodafone Red 4G-ready plus the ‘4GB bonus’ which is an extra 4GB per month for the duration of your contract for anyone who signs up before the end of October), unlimited calls and texts and a choice of either Sky Sports Mobile TV or Spotify Premium."
As with O2, Vodafone is offering a 4G upgrade price promise. Existing customers with an iPhone 5, Samsung SIII or Galaxy Note II can upgrade to the 5S early. Vodafone will knock 75 per cent off of the customers' remaining contract charges, let them upgrade early and start a new 4G plan
While the lack of a preorder suggests Apple expects the 5S to sell quickly, reports have come in suggesting consumers may not rush to get their hands on one. (http://www.pcr-online.biz/news/read/iphone-users-not-excited-about-iphone-5s-survey-suggests/031879)
