The messaging service will be available for the new platforms later this month.
As BlackBerry prepare to launch its first Phablet, the BlackBerry Z30 (http://mobile-ent.biz/news/read/blackberry-z30-a-mobile-that-excels-in-communication-and-productivity/022375) amongst rumours that the company will be sold by the end of the year (http://www.mobile-ent.biz/news/read/blackberry-could-be-sold-as-early-as-november/022305) – its popular messaging service preps its roll out to Android and iPhone.
The service - previously exclusive to BlackBerry – lets users chat to singular or multiple friends, share files, and set up personalised profiles.
A further update to BBM will provide a forum for active, real-time conversations between the user, brands, celebrities, artists, service providers, and communities.
Andrew Bocking, executive VP for BBM at BlackBerry, said: “With more than a billion Android, iOS and BlackBerry smartphones in the market, and no dominant mobile messaging platform, this isabsolutely the right time to bring BBM to Android and iPhone customers. The instant-chat platform currently has more than 60 million monthly active users on BlackBerry alone, with most of those chatters using BBM around 90 minutes a day, and sending or receiving more than 10 billion messages each day.
BBM will be available to download from Google Play on September 21st, and on the App Store from September 22nd.
