via engadget (http://www.engadget.com/2007/06/16/ps3-launches-in-korea-with-80gb-hard-drive/)

The translation from Korean to English is a little icky, but it looks like the PlayStation 3 launch in Korea which took place earlier today went ahead with an 80GB hard drive, in line with previous reports from Sony. It still confuses us as to why Sony is so adamant that the rest of the world won't be enjoying this same capacity anytime soon: it's not a justification to say that Korea has better broadband and therefore more capacity is required (Europeans and North Americans will just have to wait longer to fill the drive!) But hey, we're not ones to get all huffed and puffed about a measly extra 20GB of space; you've already "freed your hard disk" by now, right?

Some of the fanboys around here (no I'm not one of them =p) are really angry that the 80gb isn't being released here. Why? Its 20gb more.

If people need more space so badly, upgrade the harddrive manually or get a external one (like me).

I would much rather have 460gb capacity than 80gb capacity =P

It needs to be fat32 format. Then you plug it in and select it from the XMB

Most likely Sony will release a larger capacity drive over here when prices go down and their introduce their Video download service. And by then they'll probably up up the 360 drive and make it 150GBs... so patience...

No offense to anyone here, but I think external is a pain, I would much rather have a large capacity internal one...

Yes i take no offence off that, i would much rather have a big internal, but i dont really want to spend that much money.

When i get some spare money i will get me the biggest internal they do.

it looks like its hooked up via SATA, so it doesn't have slow USB speeds. that why I'm prolly not going to use an Ext. HDD with a PS3 since USB 2.0 is just too damn slow and there is no Firewire or eSATA on the PS3.

What pisses me off about this is, the fact that Sony threw in a 20gb bigger hard drive and are selling the units for $556...

And WHY can't there be a price cut yet? Looks like Korea already got one, albeit being small, but they are getting MORE HDD for LESS money. WTF gives?
