Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has said he believes Sony got the price of PlayStation 3 right at launch - but warned a cut will be necessary if the company wants to attract more consumers.

Speaking in an interview with GamesIndustry.biz Guillemot said, "Everybody has to remember that volumes are very dependent on price. I know the platform holders all know that, so now we have to wait for them to see when they want to achieve those numbers."

He went on to observe that PS3 enjoyed "a great launch", stating, "[Sony has] sold a machine that is actually expensive to build at the right price for consumers. It's just that if we want more consumers, we'll have to have a price that will make more people come in."

Last month, Guillemot hit the headlines for calling on Sony to drop the price of PS3 "quite significantly".

He explained to GI.biz, "I was just saying that in the last generation, we had machines that were at a lower price and they were selling more.

"It's just something to consider for all the manufacturers, that the price of the machine has a huge impact on the number of machines sold."

For more from Guillemot, including his thoughts on supporting the Wii, the decline of E3 and why it's a good time to be a third-party publisher, read the full interview (http://www.gamesindustry.biz/content_page.php?aid=25927).

its really not a bad price at all its just the consumers they are trying to focus the sales on. $600 is alot for a teenager to be lugging around not including the $50 game and the $50 extra controller and the HD cable as well forgot how that much cost. Lowering the prices on the accessories could make a difference too.

It's quite good taht the PS3 is still managing to sell consoles on par with the 360 sales during the same timeframe at it's high price. Console sales so far have been more or less within expectations. Of course they want to do better and price cut would greatly help by this Christmas season.

See thats what alot of people dont see, they say, that xbox360 is doing better than the PS3

but if you see how the sales went around during each of their life time, one could say the PS3 is doing better than the 360, and will be doing alot better than the 360 is doing now next year same time.

Xbox360 was lucky, it was released a year earlier

but with it being released so early wouldnt that kinda remind u of dreamcast???? i mean dont get me wrong or anything but if the 360 was waited on alittle while longer it would have better graphics and stuff than ps3 + a build in hd dvd, and elite sale didnt really help at all, so if ps3 cuts its price it would dominate over 360 right???
