Apple has rejected claims that it paid EA money to delay the launch of its Plants vs Zombies 2 app game on Android devices. UPDATE: EA says the quote was "taken out of context".
According to Giant Bomb (http://www.giantbomb.com/articles/apple-denies-paying-ea-to-delay-plants-vs-zombies-/1100-4747/), Frank Gibeau, head of EA Labels, apparently said during an internal town hall meeting: "Apple gave us a truckload of money to delay the Android (http://www.giantbomb.com/android/3045-123/) version [of Plants vs Zombies 2]."
However, an Apple spokesperson described the story as "not true" and said that no money was exchanged.
In a statement sent to PCR, an EA spokesperson said: "A comment from an internal meeting taken out of context has created an unfortunate misunderstanding. Reports of a paid relationship between Apple and EA are factually inaccurate, and we apologise for any confusion.”
It could be that Apple and EA had previously struck a marketing deal around the game, and it looks like Gibeau's choice of words wrongly implies otherwise.
Excluding China, up until now Plants vs Zombies 2 has only been available on iOS devices and will launch on Android at a later date.
The PopCap-developed game has been downloaded more than 25 million times worldwie to date.
