Taken from gopetition.co.uk (http://www.gopetition.co.uk/petitions/stop-the-bbfc-ban-on-manhunt-2.html):

"The BBFC have banned the game Manhunt 2, saying it is 'Morally irresponsible'. Even though many ultra violent/graphic films such as 'Hostel 2' have been awarded 18 certificates Manhunt has been shunned.

It seems that the BBFC has fallen prey to political pressure over this game, with many people suggesting that the original Manhunt was the cause of a stabbing of a 14 year old boy in 2004; even though a police investigation determined the motive of the stabbing was robbery, and the only relation between the game Manhunt and the attacker was that he owned a copy*.

*Many people have commented that it was the 14 year old victim who owned a copy of the game and not the attacker. At the moment though I am only going by what the BBC have reported on the incident (See sources)."

Not really, but whatever... I couldn't hurt.

Rockstar can do what they want... That's what this is about. Censorship is a bad thing, as it takes away the right for people to make and play whatever they want.

Stuff like this is making us revert back to the days of claiming someone's a witch, and burning them at the stake. Only now the "witches" are Rockstar and the "burning" is taking away their right to freely create what they wish.

I signed them all, and I also doubt it will accomplish anything. I'm actually not against them censoring the game and releasing one toned down enough for an M rating, so long as they're allowed to produce their original idea, and that Sony and Nintendo won't shut them down with an AO. It seems foolish that they'd deprive themselves of game sales, for what the ESRB considers enough adult material to merit and extra year of life, minimum.

Everyone keeps saying that this is a violation of free speech. This is true but at the same time just because someone can do something doesn't mean they should. Ithink R* should have used a little common sense when making this game they most likely knew it was going to be very graphic half way through the development. But they chose to keep upping the ante to the levels they have now.

I'm lost: why on God's green earth would someone try to save this game? First person to say "freedom of speech" just to make me laugh wins!

Really, is this is where our morals have fallen? I find it equally funny when it's the fanboys who say "look, Nintendo gets it!" but at the same time they think a world with adult only content games is a great think to have That's even oxymoronic: adult content in games and movies are usually catered 1) young pubes who can't even find their pubic hair and 2) grown men who still can't believe they have pubic hair. Nothing adult about that. Smoke a Joe Camel, son!

Well said... If anything, these polls will let Rockstar know that their fans support them. Remember, there's still hope for an uncut version showing up on the PC! No one has the right to deny AO games there.

For all you you that think this game should be banned or whatever... Don't sign the petition, don't b**ch either. You don't have to like or play the game, but the rest of us should have the right to.

For what it's worth.

Don't encourage Rockstar’s unhealthy habit of making ULTRA Violent games just for the free publicity of having them banned.

(Don't shoot the messenger)

There's a lot better publicity you could get than wasting £10 million developing a game you can't sell. Also, how could they be certain it was banned, the game contains no reason for that to happen and no game has be banned (and stayed banned) in the UK EVER before this.

Also the game isn't banned in the US or Japan, both bigger markets (although admittedly Japan don't buy that many game like this, just family friendly tentacle rape simulations)

I signed them all, and I also doubt it will accomplish anything. Absolutely, I have no problem with the AO rating at all, the problems in the US are Sony and Nintendo's faults, not the ESRB.

The BBFC however has an 18 rating for this kind of thing.

Everyone keeps saying that this is a violation of free speech. This is true but at the same time just because someone can do something doesn't mean they should. Ithink R* should have used a little common sense when making this game they most likely knew it was going to be very graphic half way through the development. And assuming nothing illegal is done to make the game, why shouldn't they? It's a game for adults. Selling it to a kid is a 2 year in jail criminal offence.

We're being punished because a small minority of parents are morons.

I'm lost: why on God's green earth would someone try to save this game? First person to say "freedom of speech" just to make me laugh wins!

"Because I don't like it anyone who doesn't is a moron"

I didn't even know Jack had an account here.

And your link that somehow letting this through leads to a world with ONLY adult content games is laughable. No, it would allow people to make the games they want to make.

If you ban Manhunt 2, you're accepting that video games depicting crime, cause crime. So how do you then defend GTA? Crackdown? Hell, even Need for speed or Ridge Racer? I can't. I don't want to play Manhunt 2 (or didn't before this), I do want to play a lot of other games that WILL now be banned.

How come films like Hostel and saw are just fine too?

i hope it doesn't work.. come on y the fck do they have to do extremely violent games like this!! ban it!

hmm and yes stop sayin if there are violent movies ..y not violent games.. games is not equal to movies ..so stop the comparison for god sake!

Why are they not the same? Why shouldn't ADULTS (which by your typing you clearly are not) be allowed to play any game that wasn't created illegally if they wish?

I just don't care if this COULD work or help or not, i subscribe to my part as gamer. If all the Gamers whould stick together and would be more organized (represantatives etc.) we could change something. Many people are gamers, and there will be more and more, but the gouvernments just don't know it, because we are to quite.

This is kind of bias- where is the petition to have MH2 removed from the face of the earth?

I'd sign that one.

Seriously, though, we have to send game producers (especially Rockstar) the message that there are limits to how far they can go. We impose those limits on film producers, but too often video games fly under the radar of censors.

It's titles like this that give video games in general a bad name.

really these limits are imposed on movie too? i'm guessing from your distaste for manhunt, that you don't watch saw 1,2,3, or hostel 1,2?

those movies are just as bad as manhunt 2 could have been. your comment doesn't really make sense because you obviously haven't seen some movies that are made and distributed.

Why don't you just avoid buying the game???? Just because you don't agree with other people doesn't mean you have to ruin it for the rest of us!

I just can't understand, it's like being 5 years old all over again! I like the way that the PC users have no such hassle! Nudity, violence, swearing, it's all good. I have bought loads of violent games on my PC but I’m not a fan of games with nudity i.e. p*rn but that doesn't mean I should try and petition for the rest of my life just because I don't like it! Aaaaargh people piss me off!

Oh don't go bringing reality into this.

But yes, the victim owned the game, and the idiot mother causing all the trouble bought the 18 rated game for her retarded little drug abusing crotch dropping.

Hell, beats actually being a parent doesn't it?

Why do we? That's like saying Saw gives all films a bad name.

Why should any game created by legal methods ever been banned from adult consumption. They hurt nobody and people like them.

Video games have NEVER flown under the radar of censors, and Manhunt 2 being banned while Hostel, Devil's Rejects, Saw are just fine is it happening again.

And don't think that this means any game is safe. Now we've accepted that anything in a video game will apparently be imitated in real life (the only possible reason for banning) expect to lose GTA (Obviously), Forza Motorsport (Encourages Speeding) and Mario (Encourages animal cruelty) too.

You think I'm joking? It's started already.

PC gamers have this exact same trouble, PC games are classified by the BBFC on the exact same grounds.

It's different in America where Manhunt 2 is legal but for some reason Sony and Nintendo themselves ban 18 rated games.

rockstar keeps making these games more and more grotesque because that is what sells. personally i like playing games with the most gore that i can find. i love it. and i think that if a company likes to produce games that i like to play then they shouldnt be punished for it. thats why we have the ratings system. im 23 years old. kids arent the only people who buy video games. everyone buys video games now. thats like trying to make porn illegal because kids might be able to get ahold of it. thats plain retarded.
