Nokia will unveil new mobile devices including its first ever tablet (http://www.pcr-online.biz/news/read/nokia-s-first-tablet-to-be-called-the-lumia-2520/031966) at an event in Abu Dhabi.
People ‘familiar with the plan’ told the WSJ (http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052702303342104579098950251152612.html) that several Lumia devices, lower-end devices and Nokia’s first tablet will all debut at the event on October 22nd.
The Lumia smartphones will run Microsoft’s Windows Phone platform, while the lower-end devices will be based on Nokia’s S40 software.
The tablet, code-named “Sirius”, will run Windows 8, competing directly with Microsoft – the company that bought Nokia’s Devices & Services business in September. (http://www.pcr-online.biz/news/read/microsoft-to-buy-nokia-s-mobile-phone-business/031793)
Last week Microsoft unveiled the Surface 2 (http://www.pcr-online.biz/news/read/microsoft-launches-surface-2/031967), which will be released on the same day as Nokia’s announcement – October 22nd.
With six mobile devices in total, these will be the first unveiled by Nokia since the buyout on September 3rd 013.
Last week, @evleaks posted a tweet suggesting the Nokia Sirius will actually be called the Lumia 2520.
On the smartphone front, some rumours suggest that a six-inch Lumia phablet will be unveiled at the event.
