Nokia Australia claims (https://twitter.com/NokiaAustralia/status/384497495578902528) that Bluetooth 4.0 support won't be coming to existing high-end Lumias like the 820 (http://www.engadget.com/2012/11/12/nokia-lumia-820-review/), 925 (http://www.engadget.com/2013/06/15/nokia-lumia-925-review/) and 1020. There are "hardware limitations" that prevent an upgrade, the company explains (https://twitter.com/NokiaAustralia/status/384502965723074560). We've reached out to Nokia for clarification, but the company may have hinted at those limits when launching the Adidas miCoach app -- it mentioned (http://conversations.nokia.com/2013/09/26/keep-your-workout-routine-on-track-with-adidas-micoach-for-lumia/) that only the Lumia 520 (http://www.engadget.com/2013/04/26/nokia-lumia-520-review/), 620 (http://www.engadget.com/2013/02/07/nokia-lumia-620-review/) and720 (http://www.engadget.com/2013/04/19/nokia-lumia-720-review/) would work with Adidas' heart monitors. The restrictions will no doubt frustrate some owners, although we suspect that Nokia may improve its Bluetooth support with the next wave (http://www.engadget.com/2013/09/17/nokia-teases-innovation-reinvented-event-on-october-22nd/) of Lumia hardware.
Update: Nokia Germany spokesman Ben Lampe says (https://twitter.com/herr_lampe/status/384622405194248192) that Bluetooth 4.0 support will come to all Windows Phone 8-based Lumias through a post-Amber (http://www.engadget.com/2013/08/15/nokia-amber-update-now-available-lumia-windows-phone-8/) update. Clearly, there's conflicting responses; we're hoping to get a definitive answer soon.
