Does anybody have any idea how much it costs to get a painting stretched, or framed, or whatever need be done to it ? I kinda bought a painting off ebay, and i need to get it stretched so i can hang it.

Edit: god damit, i spelt stretched with out an E, maybe my spelling mistake will draw more people in, ( evil, laugh follows)

And what i mean is, when you buy a painting, it comes just on canvas, and you have to put a wooden frame inside i guess, and i wanted to know how much it usually costs.

And by the way this is not SPAM, so f**k off, its a legitimate question, so bite me

I think you just have to get a frame that fits the painting? I'm not sure about stretching thou, unless you mean by taking the painting off the canvas and stretching it to fit the frame? (if that's possible)

no, ok lets say you have a peice of canvas, and you want to make a painting on it, you cant just paint on it, because its really loose, so you put a wooden frame underneath the canvas, and pull the canvas over the frame, and staple it down.

It all depends on where you go, if you know someone who can get it done cheap, if you have the materials, the size of the canvas, etc. There's a good chance it'll cost more than the painting did.

i suggest either a framing shop, if its a good one they shouldnt have a problem... probably the most expensive option

or pop into a local art college and ask if you could get it done, or if they have any suggestions.

or even do it yourself. if you can buy a cheap plain canvas[£5-10] then take off the fabric and stretch your painting over the frame... as long as there is enough spare canvas to staple you should be fine. start at the middles of each side and then just keep pulling and stapling until you have a clean stretch, if there is plenty of spare, you can afford to retry the process if it goes wrong.
