View Full Version : No UMD update for M33 3.51 Custom Firmware

mikebeaver
July 17th, 2007, 21:06
Looks like Team M33 strike again, thanks to Jas0nuk for the infos

This update adds a new no-umd mode, it also is accumulative, so it adds the previous wlan fix if you have not applied it.

The use noumd config in recovery has been changed to UMD Mode. There are 3 options:
1. Normal -> this is the normal one that requires an UMD.
2. OE isofs legacy -> this is the OE noumd, that will be still kept at the moment.
3. M33 Driver -> this is the new NO-UMD mode added in this update.

To install, copy folder noumdm33 into ms0:/PSP/GAME150/ and use it.

The compatibility of new mode has still to be more tested, but we have seen that some games like GTA LCS and Xyanide Resurrection that didn't work in the old mode, work now. This new mode doesn't use the sony loader, but it is inspired by it.

Well it doesn't say it’s a maxconsole exclusive so let’s upload it here too. Here..

Oh and everyone I'm currently working on a PSP Custom Firmware FAQ here is a link.. http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=68856 it’s close to being complete and it would be nice if anyone could help by posting any information they have that’s not currently present on the FAQ. I've spent a lot of time on this FAQ and unfortunately it has yet to be noticed.. Its goal is to stay up to date with all the new custom firmwares along with their features/issues as possible. It would be a ton easier if people contributed to the FAQ by posting information. So mikebeaver if you could link to this FAQ in your post it would be appreciated. Thanx!

Is your cpu speed 333mhz? That is what the umd (not iso) requires if you're in an OE firmware too for some reason.

pspfan
July 17th, 2007, 23:16
I'm not complaining that this should be taken down, but I remember when there were DevHook releases, DCemu wouldn't host them until someone made a non-ISO patch. Now, this M33 update is only about the support of ISOs (and without a UMD) but it is hosted here. It doesn't really make sense...

I can't test mine yet. I am not on the computer that has all of my isos. Has anyone tested Ridge Racer 1(psp) or Lumines 2?
In 3.40 OE, Ridge Racer doesn't load, and Lumines 2 doesn't work in all game modes. Both were full isos.

This sucks. My umd mode is "M33 Driver -NO UMD-" and I tested some stuff:
Socom FTB2 - doesn't work with M33 driver, works with OE driver
Syphon Filter Dark Mirror - doesn't work with M33 driver, works with OE driver.
Wipeout Pure - doesn't work with M33 driver, works with OE driver
Metal Slug Anthology - doesn't work with M33 driver, works with OE driver
Ratchet & Clank Size Matters - doesn't work with M33 driver, works with OE driver

For all of them I get this error:

after further testing i have found that this driver in fact is better

the problem is an incompatablity with there driver and other settings. to fix this you just need to have your settings under advanced settings set up like this...

-plain modules in UMD/ISO: Enabled
-Execute BOOT.BIN in UMD/ISO: Disabled
-Use isofs driver also in UMD-inserted mode: Disabled

with these settings i was pleased with the results being.

mikebeaver
July 18th, 2007, 00:24
Well, to clarify a few things the M33 drivers DO work better on SOME games than others, but the major factor is the compatability with your console, dont ask me why or how, maybe its the icons/ gameboots/ XMB sounds etc ( I havent got time to try out removing customisations and re-introducing stuff to find faults yet) but between me and a few others we all have different games working, my GTA: LCS will not boot at all, yet Jordans will, my Killzone works perfectly, yet if I swap memory sticks out on the XMB the new stick then wont work.

This is a good release, but, like the M33 firmware- still needs the wrinkles ironing out.

Thanks M33 for the latest update, look forward to another patch in a day or two :

Don't be sorry. That's why we are here,to help others. That's the purpose of a forum.
And the answer is NO. If you have a UMD you could still have problems. That depends on your firmware, some firmwares run more back-ups than others, like for example,3.51M33 run the games from 3.51 firmware and 3.40 OE doesn't.:)

mikebeaver
July 18th, 2007, 01:00
I guess DCEmu has changed and now supports ISOs.

I dont think you will find ANY link's on DC Emu to ANY pirated ISO's, CSO's, DAX's etc, you might find a link to an update to a custom firmware, which MAY have a greater NO-UMD compatability rate than previous firmwares but it most certainly isnt piracy or supporting it.
This patch allows you to run back-up's of your own games, if you choose to download illegal copies of games that you dont own then you are a pirate, plain and simple, but dont try and bring DC Emu down to that level please it is a good news site and is dedicated to giving us news of ALL developments in the PSP scene.

V3NOM: give me a shout and i'll seee what I can do to help you out with that FAQ, I have done a lot of customising etc with M33, mainly so I could find out what did or didnt cause my PSP to crash everytime etc.

If your games arent working try this corruption fixer..
if still no luck try cpu speeds, advanced options and disabling plugins.
this no umd driver IS buggy and they are releasing a fix for it in the next day or two

dont mean to be picky but this site did used to be against devhook because it was able to use iso`s but now something that is meant specifically for iso`s.. even worse iso`s without the need for a disk in the drive is being touted as a great thing..
like I said I dont mean to be picky as youre a fool if you dont use iso`s but why the sudden turn around?

Well by that time there were no much Iso loaders. But now,now everybody use Custom Firmwares and they have Isos loader built-in. So yeah, why hide it if everyone's using it?

thats one way of looking at it.. but a year ago we only had 1.5fw so devhook(umd and iso loader) was the only way everyone (without a modchip) could play any new games.. and devhook was nearly as popular as what Custom fw`s are now.. so realistically things havent changed too much.. if you want to play new games you have to use an app/fw that has an built in iso loader just like you did a year ago

Umm,you could be right. But DevHook wasn't as popular as Custom Firmwares ever. Also,I think that the problem with DevHook is that it uses some Copyrighted files that Custom Firmwares don't.
Anyways,Isos were never bad,and they still like that. What's really bad is the use you give to them.

just used the patch and everything
I started testing but only 1 of my games loads, Power Stone Collection, works flawlessly, i think the loading times are even faster.

but none of the other ones boot, coded arms, pinball hall of fame.

I think I'll stick to the "normal mode" (umd in the drive) a little longer until this thing its a little more polished or someone releases a plugin to switch modes so i don't need to go to recovery to play another game

The reason the no-umd OE driver is mantained is that the new m33 one is not 100%, it´s just a different driver that happens to work on some games where the OE one doesnt. Maybe we´ll see a unified 100% working driver in the future.

The reason the no-umd OE driver is mantained is that the new m33 one is not 100%, it´s just a different driver that happens to work on some games where the OE one doesnt. Maybe we´ll see a unified 100% working driver in the future.

like i said earlier. it seems like they started this driver from scratch.

I don't pirate, and I'm not bringing down DCEmu, I just am wondering what changed in DCEmu's strictness of ISO talk (they still don't support them, but they aren't nearly as strict). What I first said was:

I'm not complaining that this should be taken down, but I remember when there were DevHook releases, DCemu wouldn't host them until someone made a non-ISO patch. Now, this M33 update is only about the support of ISOs (and without a UMD) but it is hosted here. It doesn't really make sense...
So I'm just saying is they didn't give us news of ALL developments before. And certainly we didn't have DIGG buttons for things that could run ISOs (we seem to only have DIGG buttons for releases we consider to be great or groundbreaking).

We DO support Isos. What we DON'T support are ILLEGAL Isos.
Opiate81 agrees with me that DevHook used to also load ISOs and we wouldn't even speak of a new release of it until someone patched it to not support ISOs, and if you talked about ISOs people would yell at you and not welcome you. Like I said, I'm just saying that DCEmu has changed.

What has changed?
Well by that time there were no much Iso loaders. But now,now everybody use Custom Firmwares and they have Isos loader built-in. So yeah, why hide it if everyone's using it?
Opiate81 pretty much answered that one, but basically DevHook was what everyone used before custom firmwares to load higher firmwares and like I mentioned, DCEmu wouldn't report a new release till there was a non-ISO patch

DevHook may not have been as popular (for the simple reason that many, for lack of a better word, "noobs" had trouble with it) but it was very very close. And no, the problem with DevHook wasn't copyrighted files (that was just on one Japanese wiki site which ended up getting the cease and desist order from Sony), it was that we waited for a patch to disable the ISO loading capabilities from DevHook, which was my original argument...

OK, I'm sorry that was such a long post, but this thread was very active while I was gone and I still feel I should reply to those posts.

Also, I'm not saying DCEmu is bad, I'm just WONDERING what changed and why they now openly support ISO talk and put DIGG buttons when ISO loaders are improved, etc. I still like DCEmu, though :)

I don't understand you people... You complain when there is no ISO talk, yet when something is advertised that helps ISO's you go ape shit.

Go figure

Personally, I think that this is such a huge release that no news site would dare NOT to post it.

I never complained when psp iso talk wasnt allowed.. I just went elsewhere as most people did.. and I have nothing against this site Ive come here on and off for years.. this site and zophars were my favourite homebrew sites... but to say one program that loads iso`s means youre a pirate and then a year later endorse a product which does the same thing.. only easier (and even more piracy friendly) says to me that
A: You got it wrong iso`s DONT mean piracy.. or
B: You dont care about piracy you just want the hits on your website

again I dont mind.. I still respect this site but if youre going to take a stance on something as major as this then stick to it

Agreed. I wasn't one of the people who complained when there was no ISO talk either. And like I said, I still like this site, it's just that they changed, and I wondered why. I guess it's probably "B", though. Whatever, I'll still come to this site like I have for years.
