Buying a motorcycle !!! need advice

Well im taking the plunge, im buying my friends old kawasaki 400 triple, and i want to know if anybody has their license for motorcycles. and what i should look out for, any stories or anything.

Logbook.
Anything customisations (High Insurance)
Bike a good runner
does everything work
ask for a test drive before you buy

Plus what ever he asks for asking price give him lower so if he asks for £1100 so if he will take £1000
