Convert to .mod format?

Im making another lua game and i want to have the main bground music as mod format to ease loading times and have the sound fx as wavs. ive read that mod is simialir to midi? can i convert midi to mod? i have guitar pro and so can easily make midi files out of my music.

I think lua can play XM files (FastTracker 2 modules) ?
