Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima has suggested the Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/pc/games/12865/metal-gear-solid-v-the-phantom-pain/) gameplay experience will extend beyond consoles, once again alluding to second-screen features in the upcoming sequel.

"Metal Gear Solid 4 was a turning point: the engine, the multi-platform and online elements," he said in an interview with IGN (http://uk.ign.com/videos/2013/10/17/metal-gear-solid-5-kojima-on-reinventing-the-series).
"Moving forward I wanted to have a Metal Gear Solid that you could play on whatever you wanted, and that's how we created Peace Walker. Now we're presenting something again that's console-only, but that's not actually true of Metal Gear Solid 5.
"Metal Gear Solid 5 will have many more elements that aren't limited to one console. You'll be able to play the game on whatever you want, whenever you want."
Kojima has previously expressed interest in exploring Kinect and SmartGlass features for the game's Xbox One version and allow players to create their own missions.
"The other reason for the game going open-world is that we wanted to use multiple devices for this game," he said during an interview with CVG. (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/414360/interviews/e3-interview-kojima-on-mgs-5/)
"So using tablets and smart phones you can also enjoy MGSV and create user-generated missions within the world... if it was linear we wouldn't be able to do that."
Elsewhere in the interview, Kojima explained that Ground Zeroes, a prologue section of the overall Metal Gear Solid 5 experience, serves to ease players into the new open-world format.
"Metal Gear, so far, has been a somewhat linear game... Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain is a huge game with a vast open world."
"For Metal Gear fans, it may be a bit confusing to step into that huge open world of Phantom Pain. So Ground Zeroes is the first step in between, where players will experience a more compact and controlled prologue episode."
Konami has not yet provided an official Metal Gear Solid 5 release date. However, it was recently revealed the game is coming to Xbox One (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/412110/metal-gear-solid-5-the-phantom-pain-confirmed-for-xbox-one-first-screens-and-trailer/) as well as PlayStation 4.
