via http://m-33.narod.ru/

This update introduces a new no-umd more: the famous sony np9660.
The compatibility of this mode is not yet known, let's hope sony codes well :)
Remember to choose "Sony NP9660" in recovery to use this new mode

To the attention of becus25 and test30: Please do not do any of your releases based
from our firmwares. You steal and change name but contribute a tiny 20-line plugin.
You are a shame for psp development!

Wow, that was fast!
To use, place the folder M33-6 in PSP/GAME150/ and execute it from your 3.51 M33 psp.

if it loads faster than wouldnt that take battery life?

I don't think so, it's probably just that Sony can program more efficiently because they created the system. I'm not 100% sure though.

i wonder what more can the M33 team update since this iso loader is mostlikely 100% compatible

Yay, just like the POPS emulator! Sony create, homebrew devs crack for full usage. :)

Another great update by the great M33 team. I'm starting to doubt anyone can do better than them!

I think they are a bit harsh against becus25 and test30, though. After all, they do contribute to make it better, and always give credit.

Here's the rest of the important notes from the readme:

- We've known that on some english-talk forums, there is someone called "McDanny"
telling that he is part of M33 Team. This note is to say that he is NOT from M33, and
just a faker wanting some attention. Please don't believe him, as you won't see any
mail, notice or anything outside our webpage (m-33.narod.ru) or pspx forum posts.

- For not russian users - especially website admins:
For every sites, if you apreaciate our releases and the visitors that they bring to you,
we would appreciate if you could put our paypal link in evidence as we need to
purchase hardware matterials.
Thank you.

The sony prx is for no-umd. The OE no-umd didn't require a umd in your psp, but it still worked with any umd in.

This is just great. This sounds like the 100% noUMD that was rumored to cause pressure on Dark_AleX by SONY.

I think with this news I will finally upgrade at least 1 of my PSP's to 3.51 M33.

And if M33 firmware is going to become the "elite" firmware of choice in the future, I encourage myself and others to consider donating a small amount to the M33 team. I would love for this team to stay as active as they are now with this firmware.

SONY has all but abandoned the current PSP in favor of their new "slim" PSP so I no longer feel bad for them at all when it comes to major homebrew victories such as this.

Another pat on the back to the M33 team.

Srry until i see a cf that is equal or greater than the standard of DA then i will not use it.

Are you kidding, the M33 firmware is looking to be better than Dark Alex's one. Take note of these from the M33 team:

1) Updates/patches firmware every week or every few days. Dark Alex would maybe throw out an update once or twice a month.
2) Just as revolutionary as Dark Alex's Popstation Hack, the M33 team has hacked Sony's PSP Iso loader (np9660 prx). Now you can play your backed-up PSP Games (Isos) without a UMD and Know the game will work 100%.
3) Installation is WAAAAY easier than Dark Alex's releases were. M33 Firmware almost does everything for you.
4) Sooner or later, Sony will start throwing out games to support only 3.50+ Firmware.

So overall, It would be best to upgrade now like the rest of us have. Try it out at least, they give you recovery mode just like Dark Alexs in case you don't like it. The choice is yours...

DarthPaul
July 19th, 2007, 23:45
Yeah I would say it's greater too. And if you don't like it why do you come in here and comment?

Just try it man, really, you're not losing anything! It's damn good to play without the UMD,and to see the 3.51's features even if you won't use them. :p

If anyone is curious check out the 'PSP Custom Firmware Reference' thread.. http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=68856 it has everything you need to know about every Custom Firmware. Oh btw the name is a work in progress.. :p still working on a good name for it.

Thats it !!!
I'm updating to M33. :D

With several other custom firmwares on the horizon, I was going to wait it out with my tried & true 3.40 OE.
I just wanted to see how things unfolded, before I committed to moving on from OE.

But damn. 3.51 features. Plugins for homebrew, hacked np9660 prx
DAX himself probably couldn't do better. ;)

I'm behind M33 all the way. (I plan on donating)
M33 is heir apparent to Dark_AleX.
GOD bless them :)

As far as becus25 & test30 - they are contributors to our family. They do what they can. and as far as I have seen, have always given credit... I don't believe they ask for donations either, but I'm not sure... I support them as well.

Bottom line-

M33 = 1337
PLEASE DONATE TO KEEP THIS GOING:thumbup:

Just a question though....

Does this firmware come with any strange occurrences or annoyances that were not present in 3.40 OE-A? Are there any bugs or kinks that still need to be worked out?

What about 3.51 M33 would cause people NOT to want to upgrade to it? Anything?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can answer any questions relating to this.

there are issues with themes on it.
on topic - i think there hypocrites.
they put down others work as stealing when there 'work' is completly stolen from dark alex. it is true some work was done reversing it but honestly - that isnt the same as writing your own which is what dark alex did. i seriously think they should stop laying out stupid comments like this because they are just going to distance themselves from the people there trying to get cash out of. because of these comments i may have been forced to not donate to there cause, which i was seriously considering. we know there doing this strictly for profit but thats still no reason to put others work down no matter how good or bad, big or small, it is. these other guys are not even asking for donations anyway so whats there game? the more i think about it the more i wish dark alex didnt leave. roll on the other custom firmware makers.

You can grab the decrypted RCO files here (http://rapidshare.com/files/43914706/Decrypted_3.51_RCO_Files.zip)!

I didn't know that,thanks for the good news!!

well u use the plugin in the vsh. and you put the TM folder in the root of your memory stick. and inside that folder there are 2 folders, vsh and font. you put the rcos in the resource folder which is in the vsh folder. so yea its basicly your usual flash folders on your memory stick.
the only bug i noticed is that sometimes when you exit a game the custom theme goes away but it comes back after exiting another game. which seems pretty cool because you can have 2 themes then.

One more bug, if the theme you have on your memorystick has a different font instead of the default psp one, when you exit a homebrew app the font will become corrupted. The only fix for it is to shut down the psp all the way and start it up again.

I first thought sony would walked over us when dark_alex left, but than these ones came piersed their balls against the wall, so we also could get their holy new things, and their holy sword they don't like: It's not the excalibur, nor the Ultima weapon, but it's called Homebrew & firmware hacking. sony's worst enemy on this front. M33 is one of those wise guys wich knows how to use this sword so M33 team took their weapons and killed the security on 3.51. they implimented the importent element called homebrew, No Umd, wich sony made just to look stupid when it got hacked, and when they realised that the PSP were ment to be for homebrew, they took their jackets and ran away, to make a unhackable PSP with anorexia.

Way to go sony, just leave us.

and than again, thanks for saving us M33:D

Well I said I would do it and I did. I upgraded my "lab rat" PSP to 3.51 M33-6 and I must say it has so far surpassed my expectations.

The np9660 noUMD is excellent. The few games I tried (Hot Brain, Ultimate Board Game Col., Luxor, Super Fruitfall Deluxe, and Tales of the World: RM) all loaded up fine with noUMD. Load times do seem greatly improved as other people have been reporting also.

Everything I have so far thrown at this firmware has worked flawlessly. No problems.

I am a very happy camper. In a way I sort of feel like I am backstabbing Dark_AleX by abandoning OE but if he quit for good, I guess it no longer matters :-(

I do hope that someday Dark_AleX does make a comeback however. But man, this great scene of ours refuses to let us down huh? So soon after the end of OE we are seeing more activity than ever in the custom firmware department.

Spread the word about 3.51 M33! I, being very wary of changing firmwares definitely give this a thumbs up. Great job M33 hacking team!

you can just grab the latest update and get every update that they've released plus the latest one [obviously] and you'll get them all when they update.

and it has bugs yes, but they're reacting quikly and supplying a fix for these bugs. and the WLAN fix, as i said before, they responded and got it fixed on the same day, it's not like we were left waiting for a week or a month to get this WLAN fix.

Are you seriously complaining about frequent updates to a 3.51 custom firmware? Do some people need a reminder that just a couple weeks ago the future of custom firmware was looking very bleak with the loss of Dark_AleX.

When a small hacking team unleashes something like this to the whole world, they instantly have a global army of "beta testers" of sorts. So naturally with more people testing out the firmware in various ways, more bugs will be found at first. This is a good thing and the M33 team has obviously been on top of fixing major bugs right away.

This is the sort of commitment and dedication that we should all acknowledge and appreciate. A good custom firmware is like the heart of a homebrew-enabled PSP. It makes all sorts of things possible.

If you had a problem with your heart I bet you would want it fixed right away if it could, LOL.

I know becus & test meant well but I can totally relate to the frustration of the M33 team. It reminds me of how people got annoyed when gpSP Kai releases were just forking the code of gpSP and causing confusion. I understood why Exophase was ticked off about that and it appears to be a similar situation with the unofficial M33 firmware updates.

I know its only a few people but they should really stop complaining and understand they are lucky that we have custom firmware projects like this getting frequent updates.

That's my rant on this matter. Don't take it too personal.

you can just grab the latest update and get every update that they've released plus the latest one [obviously] and you'll get them all when they update.
That is true. You don't need to update 6 different times just because there are six updates. Just install the initial M33 setup, then run the M33-6 update and voila! You are all up to date in less than a second.

allright...f it. I took the plunge and while I don't PERSONALLY see much difference yet I'm pleased to see that pretty much everything I'm currently using my PSP for is functional.

If someone ever puts out a game I actually care to PLAY for the PSP I'll try out the ISO stuff but since I don't own any games (I'm a homebrew fanatic) I'll have to let others fill the gaps there. and "native" iso support I decided to move up from 3.40OE to 3.51M33-6

So far I have not run into any iso loading problems using no-umd
The games seem to run faster as well.
I like being able to have a umd movie in
and play iso games too... pretty sweet.

I was able to convert my "system_plugin_fg.rco"
from 3.40OE to 3.51 using ZiNgA BuRgA 's RCOEdit114d
No more lockups when using usb and a custom battery icon. (Black Battery)

I've registered on the PSPX forums to be able to download (they no longer host the updates on their site, only link to PSPX), but I haven't received the confirmation email yet. I'll download and post it in news when I do. Here is the list of new features:

In this update includes previous updates and next :
1) Improvement in M33 NO-UMD (that is from sony much better, but we finish our hunting) : + fix problems that prevented play in ATV Offroad Fury Pro Steel Horizons, Tony Hawk's Project 8, and possibly others. + Download improved.
2) An automated patch for the problems with the LCD TA-082 +, now illumination levels are working well. M33 itself verifies if there is a problem and it adjusts. WLAN patch placed on another. (It is available for 3.51, 1.50 in before the reboot. For those who have not read the instructions, we NEVER Distribute sony files releases! Patch programmed myself! In previous guidance, we wrote that the problem with WLAN not for us.)
3) Fourth Rate Fix is now available in 1.5.
4) The Hard Reset on 1.50 homebrew added to the recovery. Use it only if WLAN patch will not work. (It's recommended, as well as slowing import hombryu)

Yeah, already did: http://dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=69319. :) By the way, a better changelog:

This update includes previous updates, as well as:
* Improvements in M33 NO-UMD driver (yeah, we know that sony one is better, but we still are working
on our own driver to make it perfect as a challenge). The improvements:
- Fixed a bug that caused incompatibility with ATV Offroad Fury Pro, Steel Horizons,
Tony Hawk's Project 8 and probably more games.
- Speed loading has improved, now M33 driver imitates better Sony one.

* Automatic display fix for ta-082+ with brightness problems in 1.50 kernel.
- M33 will autodetect ta-082+ with brightness problems, and will correct brightness properly.

* Wlan fix is now done differently, patch is done in 3.51 kernel before going to 1.50 one.
- For those that don't read well the readmes: we never would include in our files a sony prx!
The fix was and is done simply with code. The 3.40 mention was to notice that the problem
was not a M33 bug, but a problem caused by Sony.

* 4th level of brightness enabled on 1.5 kernel too now.

* An option has been added to recovery, "Hard Reset on 1.50 homebrew". Use this, only if the wifi
fix doesn't work with your psp still. It makes homebrew boot a bit slower.

- M33

Is this more compatible and less buggy than 3.40OE? I'm pretty happy with that at the moment. Does this firmware overcome any advantages 3.40OE has? I'm hearing so many issues of compatibility with ISO's and such, I'm not sure about upgrading.

Well there is a 3.52 M33-4 now so you should downgrade using Lumines (that's not for all the firmwares but for 3.50 yeah you can ONLY downgrade with THAT game, sorry but IT"S WORTH IT) and then install 3.52 M33. You have to install that one first and THEN you can go straight to 3.52 M33-4 from just number one (you do not have to go through 2 and 3, so many people ask it and it gets annoying). Good luck and yeah it really is worth it, I would have probably sold my PSP if I didn't have custom firmwares and homebrew.

Sorry, I meant I'm using Alex's 3.40OE custom firmware.

Oh then go to 3.52 M33 then update from there to M33-4.
