The Windows 8.1 update designed for Microsoft’s RT tablet PCs has been pulled from the Windows Store.
TechSpot (http://www.techspot.com/news/54397-microsoft-pulls-windows-81-update-for-surface-rt-following-bsod-reports-updated.html) reports that Microsoft has confirmed an issue that affects roughly one in every thousand users that results in Windows tablets displaying the infamous ‘blue screen of death’ (BSOD) after updating.
A workaround is available for those who have been affected that involves downloading a 3.7GB patch (http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=40810) onto a USB drive.
For everyone else, the update has been pulled until Microsoft can implement a fix.
Microsoft is currently the only supplier of Windows RT devices after manufactures including Asus, Lenovo and Samsung dropped the machines from their tablet ranges.
