Hey guys,

Just wondering why I shouldn't be using the included USB cable in my Holux slim 236 cable.

It has power functions and data transmition functions. Doesn't that mean all the lines are intact?

Also, can someone post up a link to the green proggy for the 236. The link is broken.

I believe you only need the special cable for the psp-290

I may be mistaken, but I was under the impression that that program was also only for the psp-290

Nah, not that one.

This is from the "yet another mapthis! faq" from above.

"GPS-viewer Green Proggie for serial GPS
http://deniska.dcemu.co.uk/bin/gps_viewer.zip"

The link is broken tho :(

The lines are in tact but gpslim 236 does not use usb for nmea transmission. read the specs..
And don't get me started again on usb client/host thing - it has been answered here and in ps2dev forums a million times...
short answer is - it never going to happen :-)

Hmm.. that would explain why it didn't work when i got it all together last night!

I couldn't understand why it wasn't working because i was using the wires that came from the middle and GND lead on the "B" end.

So basicly I'm ****ed until i get a new USB mini cable? Cuz, some guy a few threads down got a new usb cable for his and it seemed to work.

One other question. I used a 2k instead of a 1k because i read at QJ that the circuit works with anywhere from a 1-5k resister. I just wanted to be safe. Should i use a 1k?

not for this - it's for psp290 unit

2k may be too much...
you can skip the resistor at all..

you can skip the resistor, but 1K is the safest to go, mainly cause some companys trust it enough to make a pre-made cable with the resistor in it.

AWESOME, a little update here.

I replaced the resistor with a 1k. The green proggy i have picked up the nmea data.

Booted up mapthis!, used a map of my home town and it pinpointed my house pefectcly!

Now i just need to put everything back together and see if it all still works :D
