erm custom xmb

cxmb is also the name of a plug-in for custom firmware.

Make sure you are flashing an .rco thats made for the firmware you are using.

Make sure you are flashing them to the right location.

Make sure you make a backup of your files before overwriting anything.

What firmware is the psp on?
What firmware is the custom menu made for?
What (few) files were you attempting to write?
Where did you write the files too?

3.40 oe, it was made for that, yeah i made a backup of the rco's and resored them, although resotring left it still semi bricked so i recovered the psp. they were , the files were topmenu.rco , system-bg, system_fg, and there was one more, damn i forget now, i wiped the xmb off my computer... is there any known reasons why xmb doesnt work, they work on mine.

Could be:

bad registry - fixed by restoring system defaults or using an F1 formatter.

bad download - download theme again

Or ???

An F1 formatter can be used to "clean" flash 1
Its roughly the same as using the restore system defaults built into the PSP.
An F1 formatter is built into 3.52 M33 firmware.
Sometimes the PSP does not recreate the f1\vsh\theme folder and you must create one yourself.
You'll know if this has happened to you if your wallpaper always disappears after a cold boot.

Currupted downloads happen.
I dont know why but they seem to happen to me most often when downloading from forum links.

Use a plug-in like CXMB (http://www.2alien.info/2007/06/cxmb.html) to experiment with or trouble shoot a theme before flashing it for real.
It does have its limitations as far as what it can load for themes from the memory stick.
Ive created a list of what I know that works and does not work here (http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=69369)

Use SCEP-XMB (http://www.2alien.info/2007/05/scx17p.html) from the same author.
The newest version is pretty sweet. SCEP-XMB 1.7b (http://forums.maxconsole.net/showthread.php?t=63188)
xmb reboot and shut down
screen capture
OE/M33 recovery settings in the XMB
CPU throttling in the XMB... and more
Its not complete yet, meaning some functions dont work.

Oh, and the menu color (http://forums.maxconsole.net/showthread.php?t=63188&page=2) is hex editable making it slip cleanly into custom themes.
Here is a black menu config (http://forums.maxconsole.net/showthread.php?t=63188&page=4) file

I had a similar problem that the original poster had but unlike him i am having no such luck. I will describe what happened in detail in hopes to get help and advice.

I upgraded my 3.4 - 3.5 to downgrade to 1.5
I formatted my stick to load homebrew emus
I used a CXMB but apparently overflashed my memory
but unlike the guy i didn't have a flash restore program
when i turn it on all i can get to is the opening "Sony Computer Entertainment" and then it freezes b/f turning off.
I can't get past that point
so in summation is there any possible way to format my flash w/o modding if so can some one help me or direct me in the right direction.
-Thanks

If you mean that you are stuck and cannot boot your psp past that point check out this thread.
It should really be renamed because it works for cfw up to 3.5x.
Recovery pack for 3.02OE-A - 3.40OE-A (http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=49967&page=17)
If you can make it to the recovery menu there is good hope to recover to just about any firmware you like.
(Hold Rt. Trigger on Cold Boot)

If your stuck at 1.5 without the recovery menu you might be sol without a flashmod.

If you mean that this only happens when you try a custom theme the I suggest you test your themes using the CXMB plug-in without the risk of bricking.
