The UK's biggest comic con got even bigger last weekend, with MCM London Comic Con bringing a record-breaking 88,000 visitors through the doors of ExCel London.

"The latest London Comic Con smashed the show's previous high of 76,000 attendees back in May," commented MCM co-organiser Paul Miley. "The picture looks even better when you compare attendance at this October's event to the same show last year, which saw just over 70,000 visitors - itself a record at the time."

Expanding from 25,000 m2 to 34,000 m2 and spreading across both sides of ExCel for the first time, MCM London Comic Con played host to a wide range of activities over the weekend, from the largest Yu-Gi-Oh! Championship Series in Europe to the biggest gathering of comic book creators in the UK to the finals of the EuroCosplay Championship 2013, which featured more than 40 top cosplayers from no fewer than 26 countries.

Running from Friday 25 to Sunday 27 October, Britain's biggest popular culture event also welcomed special guests from a host of movies, TV series and sci-fi shows, including Lost Girl; Game of Thrones; Primeval; Haven; Warehouse 13; By Any Means; Under The Dome; Young Dracula; Torchwood; Red Dwarf and anime studio WIT.

"It is wonderful to have so many attendees and companies like Nintendo, E4, Warner Bros., Syfy, Namco Bandai, Manga Entertainment and Konami supporting our show," said MCM co-organiser Bryan Cooney. "London Comic Con continues to grow year-on-year in terms of attendance, floor space and content, making the show an ever more attractive prospect for fans and exhibitors alike, and we'll be returning in May with an even bigger event."
