As you'd imagine, the world is still Android's oyster. Strategy Analytics estimates (http://blogs.strategyanalytics.com/WSS/post/2013/10/31/Android-Captures-Record-81-Percent-Share-of-Global-Smartphone-Shipments-in-Q3-2013.aspx) that the OS has crossed the symbolic 80 percent mark (http://www.engadget.com/2013/08/01/strategy-analytics-smartphone-share-q2-2013/), reaching 81.3 percent of smartphone shipments by the end of September. Not that Google was the only company doing well -- Nokia's strong US sales (http://www.engadget.com/2013/10/29/nokia-q3-2013-lumia-sales/) helped Windows Phone grow to 4.1 percent of the market, or nearly double what it had a year ago. Whether or not these trends continue is another matter. Although Android likely isn't in danger given the launches of phones like theGalaxy Note 3 (http://www.engadget.com/2013/09/30/samsung-galaxy-note-3-review/), there are also new iPhones (http://www.engadget.com/2013/09/17/iphone-5s-review/) and Lumias (http://www.engadget.com/2013/10/22/nokia-lumia-1520-hands-on/) on the scene; there may be one or two surprise upsets when the fourth quarter is over.
