Some interesting news for fans of PS3 Hacking, heres the info from our pals at psx-scene (http://psx-scene.com/forums/showthread.php?t=58493):

H3R3T1C posted this info:

I have discovered some odd behavior which may potentially lead to playing backed up blu-ray games. Copying this specifically crafted TIF image to a USB stick, and attempting to open it seems to cause the PS3 some confusion. While the console remains responsive to controls, you’re able to browse the XMB and launch a game. The game won't fully launch allowing time for a disc swap. Once swapped, remove the USB stick, and the new game boots — no errors!

Heres the how to install

1. Put the .TIF on a USB (download below)
2. Put a game in the PS3.
3. Insert the card with the .TIF exploit and go to "Photo icon" ... let it load.
3. Try to start the game and it should just lock up.
4. Take the USB out and the game should continue loading.

This potential TIFF exploit has been tested on firmware 1.31, 1.80, and the latest, 1.90. Posts your results below and let us know if it worked for you and on which firmware you tested it on.

This looks like it might actually amount to something rather than all the other exploits that have done nothing. Also, Wraggster, please change your original post because it is from ps3hax.net and not psx-scene.com.

The guy's voice reminds me of Homestar. Nevertheless, my use of homebrew has never gone beyond emulators for old 2d systems. I'd rather keep my psp for homebrew and my ps3 completely legit with Sony. Even if this exploit were real; it would be about a full year before we started seeing some worthwhile releases on the ps3 homebrew front. There is too much coming out for the ps3 officially this coming year for me to even consider staying at 1.90 that long.

That being said, I still hope that this leads to something. The ps3 would be a homebrew behemoth if it could only be cracked.

I would think that a tiff exploit or something similar is completely possible, however with the accounts of this same source having faked exploits in the past, or led people on, time will tell what is done with this exploit.

PS3 does need something like this to boost console sales.

When will sony learn?

They should just ditch .tif if they want to prevent hacking so much. Who the hell even uses it?

But, oh well. More h4x 4 us!

I like how there's a news article on the front page about how to run copied games and only mentions running copied games, not homebrew, yet I thought Dcemu were against any discussion about running copied games.

i think sonys pretty safe when i comes right down to it cuz in order to play a "backup" of a ps3 game, not only do u have to wait about a week for the ps3 game to finish downloading (since there about 60 gigabytes each when your downloading 100mb at a time from rapidshare and since your not premium you have to wait 3 hours in between each download) but also cuz you have to have a blu-ray burner and blank blu ray discs. btw the blu ray burner is $750-1000 and blank discs are like $15-25 EACH. and i know you are all thinking well what about my 80 gig hardrive it can hold it ...nope right now this exploit can only load games that are on a disc which means that you have to spend $1000 just to play some games i think that unless ur going to go on a pirate cruise so you can make some of that money back by selling illegal discs on ebay (btw i hope you get caught and go to jail for 5-10 years) its not gonna be worth it so just go down to your local walmart and buy a game for $60 and stop whinning o i want to play all the great games that the ps3 has.... please they only have like 2 good games anyway and i know they keep saying o but but metal gear 4 but but... its not happening... for a while cuz of cutbacks cuz they ps3 game developers are using a code that they themselves dont even fully understand how to use and they invented it lol
now where was i o yes i think its a better idea to just got down to walmart and buy a game legally for only $60 its only $60 people thats not that much compared to $1000 so go beg your mommy and daddy to buy it for you or get a job and if ur lucky enough to make $7.50 and hour your can have $60 in a day

ever heard of torrents? and ive heard ps3 games have not gone over 13gig and dual layer blue ray discs are 50 gig max and who really wants to work a full day for a game it seems like a waste 2 me

Hey there, let's not force this topic to be locked now, and for the record, the biggest blu-ray image i've heard of is what mcdougall57 said...

Just so you people know, the video was not made by H3R3T1C. That video is fake anyways and at this point nothing has come of the exploit at all, not even a swapping for a backup to play. This looks like it won't be much.

doesn't work on 1.51

games still launch, but trying to view another photo ON THE MEM STICK after trying exploit says "image cannot be displayed" and crashes XMB when pushing O to go back. if music is playing, it still continues to bump, so it doesn't create a total system failure -- a good sign.

same thing happens via remote play, but locks up in "remote play in session" screen instead (on tv), psp just gets disconnected
