08/19/2007]:::Update::: Enabling sound for generic (serial) gps devices.
One of the main compaints of the holux users is the lack of sound, since the plug, required for serial connection, automatically mutes PSP's speakers.
Mr7 just dropped in with this easy solution:
"Chop off the tip of the audio plug"
I tried it on 2 of my cablesand it works just fine..

[08/18/2007]:::Update::: in7ane just released a new version of gmdl, which patches some compatibility issues.
Get it here: http://www.in7ane.com/psp/gmdl0.5.00b.zip

Heres a new release of the Map This - Map Software for PSP with support for PSP GPS Receiver (http://www.play-asia.com/SOap-23-83-2pz-71-bh-49-en-84-j-70-1mij.html)

DIGG THIS RELEASE (http://deniska.dcemu.co.uk/mapthis-0-5-1-year-anniversary-edition--71404.html)

http://deniska.dcemu.co.uk/mapthis-0-5-1-year-anniversary-edition--71404.html

NEW IN v0.5
-----------
- Birds Eye mode
- Inverted colors (night) mode
- Voice Prompts / Alerts support. (* see notes below)
- Missing zoom layer rendering (only for gpsfs maps). MapThis! attempts to render a missing zoom layer with shrinked
tiles fromthe next zoom level.
- Screenshots are saved in ms0:/PSP/PHOTO now
- Icons/sounds can now be located in either a particular map directory or system (system/sounds or system/icons) directory.
- POI and WAYPOINT files can now also be looked up from ms0:/PSP/COMMON
- Geodata can now be shared between maps if geodata.dat file is placed in the same directory as EBOOT.PBP.
The program will attempt to load geodata.dat file in the current map directory first.
- New tiger line geodata for USA (2006se from 03/2007) compiled and available through gmdl18a and higher versions.
- Edit functionality added to "Configuration" screen. While in Configuration screen, scroll down untill the line that needs to be
edited is on top. Press [X] to enter the edit mode. You can use up/down arrows to increment/decrement current character by 1.
Use [START] to save or [SELECT] to cancel the edit.
- New current position prediction logic, hopefully resulting in smoother scrolling.
- A few rendering bug fixes in graphics routines.
- New parameters added to configuration file: STARTUPFREQUENCY, STARTUPSCREENMODE, NIGHTMODE, SPEEDLIMIT.
SATINFOFREQUENCY defines cpu frequency on Satellite Info screen (PSP-290 only)
- Timezone parameter removed from configuration, timezone is determined based on your psp date/time settings.
- Localization support (language packs).
- PSP-290 version does not require prx files to run in non-gps mode.
- Attached sorce code adopted to the latest verison of PSPSDK

KNOWN BUGS / PROBLEMS
-----------------
- WIFI MAP UPLOAD does not work for PSP-290 version
- Infrequent crashes (still under investigation)

VOICE PROMPTS / ALERTS EXPLANATION
---------------------------------
Starting with MapThis! 0.5 it is possible to assign sound alerts to any POI or waypoint.
For instance, if you have a speed trap POI list for your area and you'd like to have a
sound alert when approaching a speed trap you'll need to do following:
1) Save your alert sound as 128bps/44Khz mp3 file as system/messageXXX.mp3 where XXX is any 3 digit number.
2) Edit your speed trap POI file to add that message number to the end of every poi definition line
40.666758,-73.992049,SPEED CAMERA,CAMERA1,XXX
40.666901,-73.988001,SPEED TRAP,TROOPER,XXX
........

The latest gmdl tool has the ability to match waypoint descriptions to a predefined dictionary of voice
prompts. For example if it detects a word "left" in the description it can assign "Left turn ahead"
pre-recorded message. The dictionary in gmdl is configurable via sounds.txt file, in which certain words
or phrases are linked to mp3 messages. MapThis! allows up to 1000 different messages per route or POI file.

INSTALLATION
------------

To get gps functionality working:
generic gps receiver version must be ran under 1.5 kernel (install in GAME150 folder under custom FW)
PSP-290 gps receiver version must be ran under 3.XX kernel (install in GAME3XX folder under custom FW)
PSP-290 version requires usbacc.prx and usbgps.prx files for GPS functionality to be working properly.
These files must be extracted from your firmware version and placed in the same directory as EBOOT.PBP.
Visit MapThis! FAQ threads in DCEMU forums (http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=170) for details.

Many thanks to everyone who contributed time, skills, hardware and money to this project!

Deniska first bug found in configuration.

If i want to edit the STARTUPMAP, i type _AMDERDAM

Whoops, typed a mistake so i want to delete it, to make AMSTERDAM but the delete does nothing !!

Also the up and down to increment and decrement a number (e.g nightvision 1 or 0 ) doesn't work.

But VERY fine that i can edit config.

The Editing is a bit dangerous. You can edit too much:

I can delete too much so it becomes NIGH, it was NIGHTMODE

That will lock up the program.

Also it doesn't autosave the config people, you have to press start for that remember !

The 3D mode is GODLIKE :)

I race around my map now and turning with my shoulder buttons. I raced from Amsterdam to Rotterdam AMAZING feature.

I need to make the maps a bit higher quality because they become a bit screwed in lower levels in 3d mode. A bit blocky.

Thanks for the release deniska.

I got two questions:
1st - What's SATINFOFREQUENCY=90 good for?
2nd - What's STARTUPSCREENMODE=0 good for?

And thanks for implementing 'startupfrequency', this saves a lot of time for me :)

Though i have little problems with startupmap (it was working in 0.499 but in 0.5 it won't load the map immediantly).

Sat info frequency is the cpu speed the psp should be on when you are going to the GPS info screen.

With the psp-290, the lower the cpu speed, the faster it fixes.

Startup screen mode = normal (0) or nightvision (1).

Wow this just gets better and better. I made a map of my city with the new gmdl and it finally downloaded the geodata. Still has the cwcheat crash, so make sure you turn cwcheat off when starting up Mapthis!.

Also I love the new 3D mode. It gives me a much better sense of direction on the road. Fantastic job!

STARTUPSCREENMODE let's your startup with either notrth up, track up or 3D mode. Only works if startup map is specified.

your startup map probbaly does not load due to "^M" or "^r" characters that windows-based editors add to the end of each line.
To fix that, go to ->configuration, edit the starupmap line and remove the the white space character, following the last letter in your map with "delete" button on danzeff keyboard.
After "saving" that line with [start], go to edit again and make sure that the blinking cursor points at the last latter in your map's name...

You are right - edit mode is not foolproof yet... but it's better than not having the ability to change some setting "on the go"...

BTW, you have to restart the program in order for some settings to take effect..

Did you create the directions with the latest version of gmdl? (you may need to re-download it...)
the previous version had the voice prompts sampled in 56kbps.. Mapthis needs 128 kbps samples...
So make sure you link to samples in system/sounds directory..

deniska
August 18th, 2007, 04:23
is there a search function in mapthis?

There is search for POIs (listing upto 100 closest POIs matching your query) and also address lookup.
Address search currently requires geodata, which is available for USA only (some parts of Canada may work too)

map size depends on zoom range... you can have the whole planet on 32 mb memory stick, but would not be able to zoom in close.
gmdl gives rough map size estimates on preview popup screens...

Hi everybody, what jolly work you're doing deniska.

I was wondering:
When using 3D display in track up mode, arent't L & R currently inverted ? When I press L, it turns to the right, when I press R, it turns to the left...

Also, about this wifi map downloading, why couldn't you integrate it in the psp-290 version?

Could someone please give me a link to the famous holux gps dongle thing?

Nice App.
Have to try this in a few minutes, when it is dark outside :)
And really cool that you can edit the config file with the PSP.
But a GUI for the config file would be great =)

Hi all,
I have the same problem than Urus.
I have made waypoints with GMDL 0.5.00.b on the map of my city but when I try to drive I don't have the sound.

The waypoints and POI are good, they write "turn left, turn right, etc..." but when I'm on, there is no voice.
I don't understand what I must do anymore for works.

Also, the 0.5 works perfectly and thank you so much
to the people worked on.

Ursus, ry0san, have you unzipped the GMDL archive, and do you definitely have sounds.txt in the same directory as the exe?

ry0san
August 18th, 2007, 21:36
in7ane, yes I have unzipped GMDL and I have the sounds.txt near the Global Map Download Tool.exe.
I have made my waypoints in the "direction" tab.
Maybe I have forgot an option.
But this is the same procedure than the older versions of mapthis and GMDL isnt'it ? There is nothing to do anymore ?

Wow so I've finally had a chance to test the new version out and I have to say it is very impressive!

Deniska you never cease to amaze us.

Two things I would like to see added for the new features in the upcoming versions:
the ability to control the tilt level in 3D mode (MapThis! = Google Earth for PSP) &
the ability to have "autonightmode" in config.txt for nightmode.

The autonightmode could be set with a value like "autonightmode=20:00" so after 8:00 PM it will always start the map with auto nightmode, or if a map is already opened, and that time passes, it will automatically switch to the nightmode version of the current view.

I know there is the ability toggle it always on or always off, but that requires editing the config every time, plus i know you can toggle through the views to get to the nightmode ones, but I just think this would be a nice feature.

Plus if you could program in sunrise/sunset times (like in Art's time baby program) that would make it even more powerful so you could just have nightmode automatically enable 30 minutes after sunset and disable 30 minutes after sunrise (or whatever predefined delay time set in config.txt for "autonightmodedelay=00:30").

I am glad to see you constantly improving your application and I know that community feedback can be important. :)

Thanks again deniska and in7ane for MapThis! and GMDL tools.

ps please let me know if I should post this to the discussion forums instead, or if this is ok.

Ursus, ry0san, have you unzipped the GMDL archive, and do you definitely have sounds.txt in the same directory as the exe?

I found out the problem in7ane, I opened the exe under the folder "obj" and the direction prompt all came out as "0" which does not have a corresponding message with it. However when I ran the exe under the "bin" folder (w/ the sounds.txt folder, thanks for making this clear) it works perfectly.

I'm mainly after "Keep Straight".
You can use either:
www.research.att.com/~ttsweb/tts/demo.php
or
http://www.naturalvoices.att.com/demos/
to create a wav file.
then convert it to mp3 @128kbps 44hz with any free wav editor (some are available online)

use the warm start if you had the fix before and did not move far from previous fix location.

Did you create the directions with the latest version of gmdl? (you may need to re-download it...)
the previous version had the voice prompts sampled in 56kbps.. Mapthis needs 128 kbps samples...
So make sure you link to samples in system/sounds directory..
I did what you said. I re did my POI's and the sounds still play to fast. Do i have to re-DL the whole map?

Question: What mean all the options of Enable DMS Display?

1 - The time display is in GMT time, never the time of XMB, or other

there is no auto routing yet.. so you'll need to import a route, created with gmdl tool...

you also need create POIs like airports, gas, etc for the area that you are interested in.. gmdl has all required tools to do so...

I set in config file alert ... 50pixel before impact...same result.

Also, some time i have red cercle around my position during 2 sec???

Can you help about that

BUTTTTTTT IT is very very very hard work that you did, when i try to create MAP, alert...PNG...it's so loooong and crazy, so i cant imagine to develop this tool; THANK YOU FOR ALL.

Hello to you All,

Need to know if is there any interest of the ADMIN of this site to create a Space for GPS MAPTHIS POI'S.

The idea is based of the lack of GEODATA for Europe.
In that space everybody can contribute with their created POI's for the country they live.

This space if possible could be created with a Major for each country and then a new thread for each city.
Inside a previews entry with the description and then the code for everybody copy/paste in their POI'S.

It seams probably complicate, but this is a simple idea, open for discussion and new Ideas. I think if there’s will it can benefit everybody and have maps more like the US with all kind of info, like Banks, ATM’s, Restaurants, Molls, Discotheques, etc.

Hope your comments.

Best Regards

Just my 2 cents for further development: It would be nice if the maps zoom out when you drive faster and zoom in when the car stands or with lower speed. May be its possible to implement it in the config file like:

maxzoom: 6
speedlimit: 70 kmh

minzoom: 2
speedlimit: 30 kmh

middzoom: 4

like this ;)

Hello folks!

First, I want to thank deniska, in7ane and the rest of the MapThis-Team! This Update is amazing!

As I heard you released MapThis 0.5, i directly installed it on my PSP and it seems to work very fine. Have no words for this great release!

I'll hope to have a quite longer trip in near future to test the new version in real conditions ;)

But two questions are left for me:

If I want to edit the Soundfiles, which ones do I have to replace? The ones in GMDL oder just the files in the system-folder on my PSP?

How is it about older maps? Do I have to redownload them?

@ all germans:

deniska seperated the CPU-Frequencies, so in the GPS-Info-Screen you get faster fixes!

No, generating directions on the PSP is not possible. We should stick this on the top of every topic :D

You will get problems with the copyrights of google, if you upload such maps. So everybody has to generate his own maps.

Deniska, had my first road trip with 0.5 (and my psp-290 as always) today. Newly 3.52 prx files (extracted myself). My hopes were VERY high because of this new version with new features.

But i'm shocked of gps performance. It's way down than 04.99 !!

As you know i'm a very advanced user but i don't understand this:

The psp-290 dropped it's signal almost every minute while in 3d mode :o ??

After a while the signal didn't even came back ! Rebooting the psp helped, but it took almost 5 minutes to lock then again.

Also, when the sats are locked, the arrow on the screen dances like Elvis in the fifties on the screen, what is happening ?

North up mode helped a bit but wow i didn't expect this bad performance at all.

I might consider going back to 04.99 as everything was fine there !!

Is it my setup or am i having a bad GPS day ? Because it was beautifull weather, almost no clouds at all and my 290 locked in at 1:56 min on 4 sats at once (20 mhz).

Also i saw now noticable differences between 333 mhz and 222 mhz. 222 is much more keeping the signal in driving conditions.

But the 3d mode needs 333 mhz i think, because it has to render the images.

Also the missing tiles rendering was making my psp-290 totally loose control. It says my car was flying over the road ??

Hope you have answers for this, what did you do on :

-Sat fixing and keeping fix code ?
-CPU memory using ?

Wifi connection worked fine, tested it in the xmb menue and wifi switch was on. In my first attempt mapthis tried to get some connect within 20 times. After that I tried it again and psp crashed and switched completly off...
I think it depends on some memory leakage or?

I saw so mich satellites than never before in my town!

never seen any possibility to select your satellite on your own. I turn on my holux and the nearest satellite he find will be choosen. Hmm, is there any chance to select your satellite individually?

juz a quick question for GPS-290 fellow users: anyone tried lowering the satinfofrequency to a lower value so that we can get an even better reception?

deniska is this 90mhz the tested and proven best speed for this GPS-290 unit? juz curious...

and oso if u dun mind me asking, u did explained what is warm start on page 9...but how abt cold n hot? juz hoping to get more info on configs so that fixing of sat will be optimized...thx in advance..!

You misunderstood...

I see the satellites in the Sat-Info-Screen. I don't choose them ;)

This morning i have had the same view as before. I think there are more satellites at night over my head ;). But I cannot confirm that the fix needs much longer with the new version!

deniska is this 90mhz the tested and proven best speed for this GPS-290 unit? juz curious...

The unit has problems with the electrical field the processor of the PSP generates. So if you slow down the CPU the field max disappear and you see more satellites and get earlier fixes. Because of this the CPU-Speed is just 90mhz in the Sat-Info-Screen. If you change to the mapview, you have the speed that you set in the menu (222mhz or 333mhz)

thx for the reply waltrock...but all tat u've replied i already know abt them -> the lower the field...the faster it fixes...

but my question is actually asking -> is 90mhz a tested n proven best setting (fastest fix on, least possible chance of mapthis freezing, most stable cpu speed) for GPS-290 or is it possible that there might be an even lower frequency (which hasn't been tested yet) which might make it work even better...

You can set:

SATINFOFREQUENCY to 20 mhz

This is the lowest value possible.

20 mhz will give a few seconds faster fix then 90 mhz.

Sometimes, sometimes not :D

Wonderful work !

For me it works perfectly with the 5.0 with my Holux GPS. For information I could not get the GPS to fix with previous versions... now it just works !

The interface is great. Congratulations ;)

Regarding the maps, I am still annoyed with gmdl as I do not have windows, I am looking at the code to see if I could make some script to get the maps directly from the websites.

just merge them in to one file.
make sure each diferent chunk is preseded with icin definition:
!IMAGE:food.png,
(example for restaurants)
make sure that the image with same name is present in either map's directory or ../system/icons/ directory

To quote myself, because Deniska had many many replies :) Now that the storm is over maybe he can answer my questions :D

Hello,

I have had a look at the coordinate translation code, and I would love some explanation ;)

In fact I am writing a small script to generate maps (in python) to be able to generate my own maps on linux... At the moment I use google as map source, and I implemented the map image retrieval.
For this to work, I used a mercator projection that seems to match perfectly google projection. (Note that it is not the UTM).

At that point I need to write the GPSFS, and I read the code treating the coords.txt to interpolate the coordinates. This code does not seems to consider the mercator projection.

Is the goal to simplify the computation to go faster ? Or did I miss something ?

Thanks for your help.

Codaz and everyone else asking,
I just want to make it clear, since people keep bringing up PSP-290 satellite fixing topic.
There was nothing done in 0.5 (other than playing with PSP clock frequencies) to improve the reception of the psp-290 unit...
I doubt that the reception can be improved programatically...

BTW, weather has much less impact on the reception than, for example, solar activity...
So having a sunny day - does not guarantee a good reception..but having a good receiver usually helps it ;-)

what code are your lloking at (gmdl/mapThis)?
Can you specify a function name?
If it is gmdl question - put it in gmdl thread..

Thanks for your quick answer.

I am looking at MapThis source code, especialy main.c functions getLatLong getTileCoord and getXY. But after looking at gmdl, it seems gmdl code is similar.

I have strange results using these functions, I have recoded them from the mercator projection definition found on wikipedia and the results seems more consistants at least if I check with google maps.

Haven't you noticed a deviation of the GPS while going near the pole (south or north) ?

The getLatLong function can be simplified to avoid calling several trigonometric functions.

I am trying to build mapthis localy and if it work as expected I will post a patch.

Regards,
Ixar

PS: Sorry I did not find the develoment forum related to mapthis.
EDIT: Finally I found the development thread. I will post in it from now on.

you may have trimmed too much off the end, take an x-acto knife and try to scrape some of the plastic around the base of the headphone jack, don't remove too much because you can make it loose. same thing happened with mine, but after "lengthening" the jack again by trimming the plastic housing around the bottom, the psp was able to recognize the gps signals again.

hi all:

I have been going thru the last 10+ pages try to find an answer but so far no luck. I hope someone can help me solve this problem. Please email me privately if you have the answer. Many many thx.

condition:

1. I got a PSP (originally 1.50 then upgraded to m33 3.52-4).

2. I got a PSP290. I don't think there is a diff where I got it.. it is from eBay from a US address. Is there a Japanese or European version diff? (which leads to my questions at the bottom)

3. mapthis is 0.5 (1 yr anv edition).

4. both usbxxx.prx are copied from the firmware's recover dump.

5. I can load up the mapthis no problem. Didn't get any problem reporting the 2 prx don't work. I can browse the map and etc.

6.PSP290 seems to work too (5 min or so I will get 3+ satellite if it is sunny weather)

problem:

Latitude seems correct. But longtitude seems to be a problem. I live in Vancouver BC Canada. It is also kinda close to Seattle in the US. According to the map I made plus additional google map search. Lat/Lon for Vancouver is around 49.xxx w123.xxx etc (not 100% precise but around there). This is what I see on the mapthis software when I move the cursor. Now the GPSInfo screen gives me a completely different format for lat/lon. I checked the reading on the GSPInfo screen (blue text screen) it gives me a lat of 49.xxxx (ok) but lon is 30x.xxx (it is a 300 something number with no west or east). Therefore if I turn on GPS mode I will constantly get an error popup on the screen saying the location is out of range even I am currently pointing at my home's location on the map.

Theory:

1. I thought 30x means it is within a range or 360 (degrees). So if I subtract 180 (half of the circle assuming that it means east or west then I will get the right value). At first it sounds ok but then I found out it is always off by a number of 3. 3 degrees on the map is a huge distance so my assumption is not quite correct I guess.

2. The coord I get seems constant so it is not giving me a random values. And it changes if I am in a diff location.

3. Is there some configuration I missed? Everything on the config on mapthis is default.. I am afraid messing them up will screw up something. Or the map need to be created differenly? I use google map with GMDL0.51

4. What's the values of everyone's unit displaying? I once saw a screen shot of the GPS info screen and the screen was green (not blue) and it was showing the lon as west xxxx.xxx so it is definitely different from mine.

5. I am running out of assumption ... except that my PSP is haunted? ;) Besides the wrong lon reading everything seems to be working...

Please help... pls pls pls :(

HY Deniska. Your Map- App. is really great, but needs a lot of memory. So i had an Idea how to solve this Problem: Couldn't you write a Program that generates "vector-data" instead of image files? Perhaps you could use googlemap's routes-generating function and implement it into a new programm that generates different routes from a selectet area and writes the vectordata in a special output-file... I'm sure that vectordata could be the key to a faster and better "psp-homebrew-gps future :D " ... the biggest problem is that it would be a huge work and this needs a lot of time (if it is technically possible)... btw.: anyway, thank you for the great gps application!!! I hope, you or some other psp-gps enthusiasts will take care of this vectorproblem in future !! :D

Thank you everyone for your input. Humm I think I solved the problem by grabbing a download link from this site that has the prx (it was quite a long search for prx files). What's weird was that the original prx I got was 3.52 yet they don't work so I guess the firmware update for my m33 is probably a japanese one.

Anyway, thx a million, and I got mine working. Now I need to learn how to use GMDL properly...

Oh got another question... why the PSP290_TEST program crashed me out to the menu when I run it? Mapthis works and etc and I copied the camprx folder to the root of the MS and the 2 prx files next to the EBOOT.PBP. I could take a peek at the green screen then it automatically kicked me out. Not that important because now I got the mapthis fully working with the PSP290 anyway but curious to know.

I don't know if you copied camprx folder in to the root of your memory stick.. if you did and it did not work - perhaps the provided prx files are incompatible with your current firmware version...

As of the latest CFW release, 3.71, Mapthis no longer works.

Time to downgrade as Mapthis > CFW features.

EDIT: It no longer can load the 2 GPS prxs that is. It can still load and read maps.

EDIT2: This is the PSP-290 Version, not sure about the Generic.

use 3.0 fw prx files for M 33 3.60 -3.71 - it works..
I'll try to code around this "extra-prx" non-sence" in the next update...

Just to let you guys know, i came across this as well using M33 3.71 with my fat PSP, however when I ran Nieko's code found here: http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=513488&postcount=368
It was able to then load up properly, I only did a small test but I was able to use the PSP-290 fine during that time.

Hi every one I just test Niekos Moded Mapthis! and it works great the prx files are loaded from CFW and the GPS works, indeed I didn't see diferences in PSP290 fix in satelite but the prx are no longer necesaries Maybe Deniska could include some of the modifications in next releases tnx Deniska Mapthis! is a great PSP homebrew

What do you need that many PSPs for? :)

Well heres the short version :)
First one was for me! that one runs 3.52 M33-4

Second one was for my Girlfriend so she wouldnt hog mine and to experiment firmwares on. Secretly updated to 3.52 M33-4 from 3.03 OE-C *Shhh dont tell my G.F. :D

Third was because my Gf was pissed off when i took hers and flashed it :) That one was running 3.52 M33-4 untill i dropped it and cracked the display, im looking for a used cheap display for it so i can play with MapThis more roughly in my car or outdoors.

Fourth was because none of my Old PSPs had a Ta-082 Mobo and users complained about MapThis not running on their Ta boards so i had to Verify this. *Works like a charm but when used with a Holux you cant cut of teh Tip to enable sound via internal speakers, the Holux goes offline.

Fifth is a Slim running 3.71 M33 and PSP-290 with MapThis v0.5 and decrypted .prx from 3.71 Fw :)
Im trying to order a remotecable so i can test hooking up my Holux with it but i havent found any resellers.

I think you get the idea :) Yes im a collector and i try helping out as mouch i can when i engage a project as exiting as this :)

ok so for map this, do i want to keep the 1x, 2x zooms or the 512x zooms? which is the closest? i assume the 512x would be closer but i would also think it would use more memory, but when i uncheck the 1x and 2x zooms the map size shrinks drastically.

so the zoom is zooming out not in?

Nieko
September 29th, 2007, 10:26
Zoom 0 = lots of detail, streets, etc.
Zoom 16 = the entire world, continents, etc.

In GMDL/GPSFS, the lowest level is called 1, the highest is 2 ^ (highest zoom-lowest zoom). So if you have zoom levels 3 through 8, you'll get 1,2,4,8,16,32.

Try changing your map source, if you use Google Map, then try Microsoft Virtual Earth Maps or visa versa, because sometimes the map coordinates lie in some places.

I used mapThis! a while back, but without the GPS attachment. Now I am debating buy a GPS or just getting the attachment for the PSP.

I see a lot of features but there isn't a lot of discussion... I am wondering...

Is there trip routing involved in this, or is it just tracking information and POIs?

really great tnx to Deniska, Nieko (for the Dutch Geodata wich I searched for like 2 full days) and ofcourse in7ane, I love mapth!s, Just bought the gps290 and it works like a charm.

I have a couple of questions though and some ideas

first idea, could save the marker so you can drive with the red line...(or is that already possible? if it is consider this idea been written)

and the questions

why does it take so long to fix the satelites and how come it takes so long to get the GPS function working? I live in the Netherlands and I saw on youtube some guy in tjechie or something like that(europe) he got his fixed like within 30 seconds and working too...

Nieko
October 12th, 2007, 08:50
minhan: you can simply turn on the marker and it will keep updating the red line from that point to the point you are using GPS. If you want the line to be segmented (basically indicating where you have been), you can use the version I made some changes to: http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=54109&page=37#368.

As for the time it takes to get a fix, it strongly depends on which GPS device you're using and when you last used it. "Cold boot" for the PSP-290 may take up to 5 minutes, with an extension cable it sometimes goes down to 40 seconds, but if you've had a fix 5 minutes earlier it'll be even less than that.

Edit: BTW Nieko, where do you come from? I'm from Brabant Etten-leur do you know it?

and btw, the recording doesn't work, do you maybe know why? I have the FW 3.51-4 M33 and the PSP GPS-290

Edit.... again... lol sorry about the editing but now it does work, so tnx alot !

Hi...

I was wondering that from one day to another the communication between the PSP and the Holux wouldnt work... Its kinda weird.. I cutted, on the purpose to get the Sound working , the last pole on the AudioPlug, first it worked flawelessly but after 2 weeks there is no communication between the Holux and the PSP(MapThis) ...

So my question is.... have I cutted the GND of the cable when i cutted the last Pin to get the sound working?! ... I really dont know why the problem appeared ... it worked also with the cutted pin flawelessly but now I have an apprehension...

can someone help me?!

thanks in advance

EDIT:

I localized the failure... for some reason there was no connection between the Holux and the PSP GND.....

So.... greetz kamatschka ;-)

Make sure you have custom firmware installed on your psp before attempting to run the program.

It is. OE = Open Edition. Using the PSP-290 you should have 3.03 OE or higher (M33'll also do of course).

Hi,

I'm quite new to this and have been trawling through the threads ,but I can't find an answer to my problem.

I'm using version 3.52 M33, MapThis v05 and Holux slim 296.

I've managed to get the GPS to work, but when I go into the Select Action screen it's just blank. I try pressing a few buttons and an option might appear but I can't see any options to select, it's all very hit and miss. I think that the options are there on the screen but I just can't see them.

Anyone any ideas.

Cheers
