Call of Duty: Ghosts UK launch sales are around 50 per cent lower than Call of Duty: Black Ops II, retail sources have told MCV.
It’s certainly a big, worrying figure. But there are several caveats to consider. For one, Ghosts is a launch title for Xbox One and PS4 (although the PS4 version is on shelves now), so we can only consider this part one of the Call of Duty launch.
And comparatively, Ghosts has performed quite well. Battlefield 4 sales are down 69 per cent over Battlefield 3, while Assassin’s Creed IV sales are down 60 per cent of Assassin’s Creed III.
We tried to pull up some historical data to analyse the figures some more and predict future sales, but as we’ve never had two major consoles launch within a week of each other before, there’s nothing to compare it to.
The reality is, with two platform launches of this magnitude coming out so close to each other, it is likely customers are either saving up money or holding off buying software until the new machines arrive. But how many people are waiting is impossible to predict.
We should get a clearer vision as to how well or poorly Call of Duty, Assassin’s Creed, Battlefield and FIFA have performed once the Christmas period is over.
