I would like to know if it is possible to record GPS activity with mapthis.

I would like to contribute to Open Street Map (http://www.openstreetmap.org/) project.

The best would be a tracklog under gpx format to upload it directly.

Thanks for you answers

currently mapThis can save nmea sentences, comming from the gps receiver (in the holux version)
or raw data coming from PSP-290 receiver.

while it is not gpx format... the data files have all required data for a tracklog... it should not be hard to parse out the required fields and format them in gpx.. Although I have no plans of doing that in the nearest future..

You can convert NMEA to GPX with GPSBabel, see: http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/index.php/NMEA

As for the raw 290 data, if GPSBabel does not support it, try submitting a request to them.

Deniska,

As far as I understand, Mapthis saves the log in a file automatically name gps.txt and overwrite the previous file every time it is saved?

I would think it would be better if you are promted for a file name everytime so you can save multiple logs?

or just write in a new file named as the current date+time =)

The version I posted here supports recording in a POI like fashion, so you can load the trace directly and view where you were: http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=475299&postcount=325

It's still based on MapThis 0.497, but hopefully it's of use to you.

I hoped Deniska included this in mapthis 0.5. It's VERY handy Nieko, thanks for that.

This software is AWESOME, i am having alot of fun playing around with it.

I have noticed that the gps.txt file is overwritten each time gps data recording is enabled, it would be absolutely great if the file was created on each instance of enabling the recording function. For example gps(DATE-HERE).txt

What are the odds of something like this being in place for the next release?

First post, but I've been trolling this forum for a couple weeks as I've waited for my GPS-290 to ship to my house and getting everything setup and working. In the mean time, I have desided I'd like to maybe contribute just like the OP said. Like him, I'm faced with RAW data.

Here is a working solution.
Take your gps.txt and go to
http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/convert
and upload your text file.
Now you have your choice of GPX files for OpenStreetMap and KML to test and usage with Google Earth.

I,ve been recording data with 0.499 PSP290 for a while with no problems. Ive been converting with GPS Visualizer too & it's been great. When 0.50 came out i upgraded but for some reason the recorded files where huge. With 0.51 the gps.txt files were back to their regular size but GPS visualizer said it wasn't valid data. So i went back to 0.499 & it worked ok for a while but now GPS visualizer says it's not valid data.
I'm stumped.
Is anyone having success with their gps.txt files & GPS visualizer? If so what version of Map This are you using & what version .prx's?
Does anyone know of any other way to get data out of the gps.txt files.
Cheers
