The additional graphical flourish that will accompany next-gen games will result in another fundamental change – filesizes are set to explode.
That doesn’t really matter when you’re talking about games on a Blu-ray. After all, it matters not whether your disc is carrying 5MB or 50GB of data. But if you’re downloading your games the filesize becomes a real issue, considering that Xbox One ships with a non-changeable 500GB HDD.
So the list of game download sizes from MoonlightSwami (https://twitter.com/Moonlightswami), the man behind the weekend’s big Xbox One leak (http://www.mcvuk.com/news/read/target-ships-some-xbox-ones-early-in-us-consoles-unusable-until-launch/0124058), could potentially be a concern to some.
Take 2K Sports’ NBA 2K14, for instance – that is a whopping 43GB download. Call of Duty: Ghosts weighs in at 39GB and Battlefield 4 at 33GB.
Those hoping to switch to a digital library may find that space quickly becomes sparse, meaning they may have to face up to deleting and then re-downloading content as and when it is needed – and there’s simply no quick way of downloading a 40GB game.
Here’s the full list:
Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag – 20GB
Battlefield 4 – 33GB
Call of Duty: Ghosts – 39GB
Dead Rising 3 – 19GB
